Martin's net production is usually wayyyy better than his counterpart. His d isn't bad at all. He'd be the best get out there if he could stay healthy.

I think there are only two ways this happens:

1) We really think the trade will send us to the finals THIS year
2) We get someone much younger who will start alongside Rondo and Perk for the next 3-5 years

If it's not either of those, there's not much point. If we're gonna blow it up, we're better off playing out this year and then let Pierce expire next year and go after Durant (or something along those lines).

On individual players, the way I see it:

Ellis : works from the youth angle, but has some risk fitting in and makes good money. High risk, high reward.

Martin : defense and health are issues, but he does replace Ray pretty directly. I think health is going to be the key issue here. If the guy had been playing 82 game seasons it would make a ton of sense.

Iguodala : $$$, especially if Philly wanted us to take on a bad contract with him

Hinrich : only if we are trying to keep our "window" open for another couple of years. He fills specific needs and is costly but not a long term deal.

Richardson : seems like a small upgrade to me, see Hinrich. Only if we really think he's gonna put us over the top right away.

Makes me wonder if there is another deal out there that nobody has thought of... each one of these has it's own risks.

best SG out there that could be moved. better than trading for a PG and trying to make him play the 2 ala Hinrich

I've seen Martin play

It's one thing to complain when being billed as the franchise player at the beginning of the year and then have a rookie take your touches away and complain because you are now the fifth best player on the starting five of a team with three All-Stars and two Hall of Famers
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

A trade with Utah for Ray Allen in exchange for Andrei Kirilenko and Kyle Korver works in the trade machine. Paul could slide up to the 2, and allow Kirilenko to play the 3. That would give us a lot of size, but we'd still lack athleticism. Hmmm....trying to find the right deal is definitely tricky. I would love it if we could get Brewer from Utah.

yuk we need to get better offensively, this doesn't help at all

Players we should be focusing on are. Maggette, Ellis, Igoudala, or a hinrich/salmons combo. Why not aim for Amare?

But Kapono can't create his own shot. I don't get this comparison at all. Has Kapono even sniffed 31?

Kirlienko plays much better at the 4 -- his career has basically gone downhill every since they tried to make him a 3. Not saying he's a bad player, but I don't think making him our starting SF and making Pierce defend the 2 is the answer.

The Kings trading away Martin in a salary dump is an extremely unlikely scenario, isn't it?

By extremely unlikely to you mean 0% chance of it happening?  In that case, you are correct.

Now, they might use him to get rid of other salaries, but they are going to also ask for significant value in return in addition to that.

By the way some are talking, they should be pretty desperate to get rid of him. Martin probably isn't going to come here and be a perennial all-star, but I doubt he stinks it up either. I have always kind of considered him as a Ray-like player, but I don't know about his maturity/attitude.

He goes unassisted on 45% of his shots. He is not just a catch and shoot guy. He has a career TS above 60% from my known data. But it's the injuries and the fact that Sacto won't just dump him for nothing that is the holdup.

well in a backwards way this kind of proves my point about martin hes not going to have the ball in his hands all the time like he does/did before evans got there.. disregard my post about bibby thats not what i meant to say.. but how does a player like martin fit the celtics style?
