Well then Mr. Hobbs the only trade that might satisfy what the C's want to do but what we would like in return might be

Ray Allen to Scaramento for Kevin Martin and kenny Thomas

I'd be fine with that, but I can't see Sacramento doing it.  If they're moving Martin, it's got to be to dump salary, right?

While I'd love to have Martin's skillset here for the long-term, it should at least be noted that his games played totals in 2007-08 and 2008-09 were 61 and 51 respectively, and he has only played 14 this season due to injury.  For a guy built like a stringbean at 6-7, 185, that's a bit disconcerting.

But when he's healthy, he's a heck of an offensive player.

Yeah, I agree.  I really like Kevin Martin but he can't seem to stay healthy - and health concerns are one thing we need to avoid as much as possible.

Works for everyone and makes sense for everyone.  Celtics take a chance to win it this year.  Sacremento gets players for the future and Knicks get cap space.

Celtics Trade Ray and Scal
Get Kevin Martin, Jared Jefferies and Nate Robinson

Knicks Trade Jared Jefferies, Nate Robinson, Jordan Hill, Darko Milicic and Wilson Chandler
Get Ray Allen and Scal

Scremento Trade Kevin Martin
Sacremento gets Wilson Chandler, Jordan Hill and Darko

Why not kick the tires on Josh Howard in Dallas?  I don't know how you'd make the salaries work, but he seems like somebody who would give us what we need when he's healthy.

I would rather have Ray, throw in Terry and I would be all for it .

Knicks give up way too much in that trade and get little back.

They picked Hill as a project, and they like Chandler. Also, they are expecting some sort of a return for Nate.

Unless they know some on the low information about Lebron/Wade deciding to play together, that trade would be horrible.

A trade with Utah for Ray Allen in exchange for Andrei Kirilenko and Kyle Korver works in the trade machine. Paul could slide up to the 2, and allow Kirilenko to play the 3. That would give us a lot of size, but we'd still lack athleticism. Hmmm....trying to find the right deal is definitely tricky. I would love it if we could get Brewer from Utah.

Yeah, therein lies the rub (well, that, and the utter lack of defense).  However, if we're going to compete in both the short and long-term, you need to take risks, right?  Martin's contract is reasonable enough that it wouldn't completely kill us, even if things don't work out.  If they do, we have an elite shooting / scoring guard.

An elite scoring SG that's 27 years old and signed for a reasonable price for 3 1/2 more years

A rondo, Perkins, Martin troika going forward if they are all healthy and playing well is a formidable core to build the future for
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

After a tough three game stretch, he's scored 31+ in the past two games.

i honestly believe the trade that would help us the most this year and for the future would be Ray for butler and mike miller..  but im not interested in trading ray yet unless we get bowled over which i dont think is likely to happen

the "trading ray for an expiring contract" thing throws me off a bit.  If we trade Ray for a crap sandwitch of players, I'm going to be angry.  If Ray gets traded for Kirk Hinrich, for example, I'll be very disappointed.

I only trade Ray for a young stud with a big contract.  Otherwise It's pointless.
