I like the way we played last two games, and I think in next two or three games we will be the 08/09 Celitcs with Sheed on the bench

I really wish I could understand, let alone share, this kind of boundless optimism.

havent really liked the way they have played for the entire month of January

You can see improvement since KG has come back. The third quarters have improved without a doubt. We were great on the defensive boards last night. Our bench just put the starters in a hole they couldn't recover from.

I think the posters on this board who say no trades are needed need to realize how bad we are playing for a contender. What you see from kg is what you are gunna get for the rest of the season. He's not What he was before and he never will be. We can no longer rely on giving Pierce the ball and creating for himself consistently throughout a game. (remember his brilliant performance vs lebron two years ago in the playoffs? You will never see that again from him) Ray, as much as i love him, is slowly declining. We cannot win a championship this year as assembled. No hunger, no consistency, no real offencive flow... We aren't going to all of a sudden see our aging core get any better. We need to start thinking logically, and no I am far from a bandwagon fan

IMHO the Celtics have a better chance of winning against the Lakers than they did last night.  They are playing at home with a day's rest.  Plus, the Lakers haven't been playing that well, and right now they may not be as good as the Hawks, who are starting to put it all together.

I expect the Lakers to win, but I won't be shocked if they don't.

But win or lose, the issue is what Ainge is going to do to change this team, because it has gotten old in a hurry and needs an infusion of youth and energy.  And please, I'm NOT talking about Bill Walker.

Some improvement, yes. But you do ignore the fourth quarter collapses that occurred in both Thursday and Friday's games. I don't care in what quarter the collapses occur, but know that they continue to happen.

good post..i do believe tomorrow is a better chance than the hawks game. that being said...i am still concerned. i expect a LA win also but it wont be a jolt if boston does win. also they do need some youth and what they have bench wise will not get it done (walker, sheldon, etc)

Right on, Brick.  I think we match up better with the LA than ATL.  I'm really not afraid of Odom off the bench, since he's sort of like the Stay-Puffed Marshmallow Man, as is Gasol.  They are definitely a formidable team, and are playing pretty good ball, I think, but are not at their best.

Still, regardless of this game, I think some notable moves will be made by the deadline.  The C's need some scoring punch off the bench.  I imagine someone will be available at the deadline for expirings.

Sadly, there isn't much in Quisy's career numbers to suggest he would fill that role, especially if is is spending part of his minutes as a playmaker behind Rondo.  We'll be better with him, but I think we would still need more than he will give us.  He can't do everything.

We need some offense off the bench to beat the Lakers.  Eddie and Sheed need to shoot well to soften up the D and make way for some ball movement.  Otherwise it's going to come down to Paul vs. Kobe and KG vs. Gasol in the 4th quarter, and the Lakers are better suited to win slow-it-down, offensive duels.

Can we look up what refs we got? I bet it's going to be Salvatore and crew. If so: we lose.

.edit: correct me here if I'm wrong, but are these the refs "we" hate most?
- Bennet Salvatore
- Dick Bavetta
- Joe Crawford

This is not a must win game.

The Celtics need to play better.  End of story.

We will get the calls on Sunday believe that. Laker bigs will be in bogus foul trouble and the refs will let us play more aggressive than the Lakers. We will win otherwise the league loses money due to a dwindling hopeless Boston fanbase.

What they need is someone who can come in and provide the equivalent of a healthy Leon Powe defensively and off the boards.  I can't emphasize enough how badly Sheed is killing this team right now.  And I don't mean his missed 3's.  They are consistently getting outworked up front.
