We're 2-7 against the CAVS, Lakers, Magic, and Hawks. Don't try and make out like a little healthier KG and a healthy Marquis is going to put us at the top.

Why? Are we getting blown out in all of those games? We should have won 2 games against those teams this week. We also lost that game with Atlanta with the BBD flagrant and Doc got tossed. We could easily be 5-4 against those teams.

What is there to do in this sitatuion?  Will Marquis coming back be enough???

Well, Marquis coming back, plus a healthier KG, a less rusty BBD, and non-slumping Ray might make a difference.

I think all of those are likely, other than maybe a consistently improved BBD (and even that could happen).

That's certainly all possible, but...I think the concerns are that KG plateau's at 90%, Ray improves from slumping to inconsistent, and BBD continues to be a project.  See the "bugs bunny" thread for thoughts on Quisy.

IMHO, given all that's needed for us to go from being very good to being a championship by getting better from within, a trade is the more likely route.

But if we keep fighting like we did today, I'll cheer for these guys until I lose my voice.  Then I'll make signs.

They faded in the 4th quarter-- again.  When is the last time they had a good 4th quarter against a decent team?

That ought to tell you something right there.

We're 2-7 against the CAVS, Lakers, Magic, and Hawks. Don't try and make out like a little healthier KG and a healthy Marquis is going to put us at the top. This team has serious problems being unhealthy and unrested and the rest part is only going to get worse as we hit the playoffs. If we were smart we would play KG 20 min a game, reduce PP and Ray's minutes to 25 min a game, and see if we couldn't get these bench guys on a little roll while the old guys were getting healthy. Our record really wouldn't be much worse, and we could focus on getting healthy for the last 15 games before the playoffs to going back to regular rotations. That gives us enough time to gel and gives the bench guys some extra time on the floor to build confidence.
I'm asuming since we're 0-4 against the Hawks, this means we're 2-3 against the Lakers, Cavs, Magic? That's a lot less bad.

Actually, if you include the Lakers, the Celtics are 2-8 versus those four teams. Only team they ahve a winning record against is Cleveland, 1-0.

I have read this whole thread and am trying to digest it. Here is what I know and see and why I really do not think this team can win a championship this year:

1. In the last 16 games where this team has held double-digit leads, it has lost 8 of them. That is an incredible stat to me and says a lot about the inability to play hard enough for long enough in many games.

2. The team is 2-8 versus Atlanta, Orlando, Cleveland and the Lakers.

3. Ray Allen simply is not a dependable shooter anymore. He is shooting 34 percent from the field since the Detroit game, and if he had not gone off for 8-12 against Orlando, it would be much worse. So, we get one good game from Ray out of every 6 or 7.

4. Sheed's attitude and the way he plays the game stink, to be kind.

5. The bench is just not good enough, and while Daniels will strengthen it, he is not the answer to all of the Celts' problems. And remember, he is always another injury waiting to happen, so who knows if we will have him healthy for the rest of the year.

6. They lost double digit leads in two of the three "guantlet" games, played poorly in the fourth quarter of each game, and went 0-3. They are 6-11 in their last 17 games.

Finally, while the played better today, they still lost on their home court against a Lakers' team that honestly did not play very well. A Lakers team in the 7th game of an 8 game road trip with Kobe playing with a broken finger and a sprained ankle. I so want this team to win, but I just can't find the reasons for optimism.

Finally, this last three games has been the most depressing Celtics' time for me in a long time. At least when they were really bad and we had no expectations, these losses were much easier to take.

Yep -- definitely timely to revive this thread today, because it is more trune now than it was when it started. Thanks for the 2008 championship, Danny. Now, let's hope you can figure out how to get this ship back on course in 3 years or so.
