He said Curry, Ellis and Morrow are off limits unless they are getting Rondo back, which of course isn't going to happen. He said other players could be available in a salary dump.
Also said if the C's end up trading for anyone it will be a combo type guard who can score off the bench.
good....i think the combo guard should have been adressed this offseason but i am glad to hear they are not going after ellis
ummm.....Marquis Daniels anyone?
Yeah, I don't see how exactly is a combo guard a need. It just means that House and Daniels will play less minutes. How many minutes will be available for the backup guards in the playoffs? Rondo playing 39mpg, Ray Allen about the same... 17-20 minutes? Even if Daniels plays 10 minutes for Pierce (something that would let a very undersized team on the floor for some instances), he'll certainly get half of those 18 minutes. So, we'd have House and another player competing for 10 minutes per game? Doesn't make sense. If we get another guard, it needs to be a really good 3 point shooter and House needs to go.
I'd be wary of making an experiment for the sake of a small potential improvement though.Trade for CJ Watson
CJ Watson would be one of those cases - partially because he'd guarantee a very cheap quality backup PG for the next season (or, if an extension was agreed, for years to come). Good defender, solid shooter, mistaken free - very good backup PG for a team like the Celtics. Unfortunately, I don't see his acquisition as a realistic scenario.
