And it looks as though Arenas told Stern he deserves and expects to be suspended for the remainder of the year and would ask the Player's Association not to fight the suspension.

Gilbert Arenas met face-to-face with NBA commissioner David Stern on Wednesday for the first time since the gun incident that put Arenas' future with the Washington Wizards in doubt.

One source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com that Arenas told Stern that he expects and deserves to be suspended for the rest of the season, which is believed to be the punishment Stern favors.

The Washington Post reported on its Web site that Arenas also told Stern that he would urge the players' association not to fight a season-long suspension.

Arenas -- just as teammate Javaris Crittenton did Tuesday -- met with Stern in what was regarded as the final step before the league announces a finite length to Arenas' indefinite suspension.

One source told ESPN.com that Arenas' suspension details could be announced as early as Wednesday afternoon because he already has met with league investigators.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the union fight the length of the suspension even if he asks them not to.

from what ive read in other places Gilberts also in favor of his contract getting voided, which is crazy.

if i were him I wouldnt want to play again this season either, not after the Wizards made every attempt to act like he never existed.  Too much awkwardness and negative publicity surrounding it, especially since the Wiz would probably just sit him anyway.  If he went through the summer did some charity work, and made an effort to right himself around DC, it would make for fresh start going into the '10-'11 season.  Leaving 80 mil on the table is a lot of money to give up, he must be pretty embarrassed, resentful, take your pick.

He deserved everything he got, by the way.  he asked for it.

.....i'll tell you what.  If hes a free agent next year, he could probably be had for a cheap and short contract.  He's gonna have a lot to prove....but then again I dont think I could stomach having Gilbert on this team.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale

Well, if he truly wants that, he doesn't need a suspension to make it happen.  He can simply agree to a buyout of his deal for nothing, much like Derek Fisher did with Utah.

Agreed, just due to the precedent of it.
