Pierce- $21.8 mil (player option)
Garnett- $18.8 mil
Sheed- $6.3 mil
Perk- $4.4 mil
Big Baby- $3.3 mil
Rondo- $9 mil
Giddens- $1.2 mil (team option)
Walker- $855k (team option)

This is what is on the books for next season. Assuming Pierce picks up his option and the team picks up Giddens' and Walker's options, there is approx $65 mil on the books for next year.

With a projected 2010-11 salary cap of $53.6 million and a luxury-tax line of $65 million, how will the C's sign a top Free Agent?

They're not going to be able to sign a top free agent after this season.

Use their bird rights to resign Ray

Use the MLE to sign roll players.

I had no idea Pierce was gonna make more money than KG next year.

Yep.

We can use non-Bird rights to give Marquis a 20% bump, if he'd take that.  Otherwise, we've got to use our MLE if we want to bring him back.

I think this along with a productive draft is really our only option outside of trades.

Hasn't there been talk of Pierce opting out and then re-signing for a lesser annual salary in exchange for a longer contract?

He makes $4M or so more than KG does now.

Yeah, KG gave up money on his new contract when he resigned with the C's after being traded.

IF Marquis took that, he'd become the most popular non-star since DJ.

Use the MLE to sign roll players.

If you think Ray looks bad this year, wait until you see him in two years. Think Mitch Richmond on the Lakers.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Among the fanbase, yes. We haven't heard anything about it from the Team or Pierce though.

That is definitely taking the analogy too far.  Quite frankly if he really does only play 1/2 the season then he definitely isn't worth more than 20% more.

Well, I think Ray has looked worse in the last few weeks than he really is.  He is in a slump.  He will come out of it.

But the key with signing him is that you would have to eventually phase him into a different role.  They would need to find someone who can help to lower his minutes, and help him become something closer to Reggie Miller at the end of his career.  Basically a shooting specialist, and a part-time player.

I know lol.  That would be painful to watch.
