Forgive me but everytime ray doesn't score 20 points in a game everyone starts saying that he is useless, trade him, give his minutes to TA, etc. Ray does get into slumps, but thats what shooters do, they slump, even kobe bryant slumped, even the best 3 point shooter of all time in reggie miller slumped.
The thing about ray is that he is very smart with the baskball, doesnt turn the ball over alot, makes the good passes, and plays good defense. It's all about chemistry! We have the best starting lineup in the league. Ray may only score 3 points in a playoff game but a guarentee that 3 points is going to be that last secound buzzer beater to win the game.

You bashers are hot then your cold! If ray is doing good you love him, if he is playing bad you hate him.

Are you going to get a new team when the celtics get back to being a lottery team for a few years?

Yes we need a bench scoring, great defensive SF. Someone better than TA but not at the expense of getting rid of Ray.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

He's good, and most folks seem to like him, personally and as a player, and most recognize what he brings to the team.  A dispassionate, non-sentimental assessment of his current positives and weaknesses, combined with his expiring salary and the broader strenghts and needs of the team, and that, due to his age, he is not in the long-term picture either way, means that it makes perfect sense to discuss what he brings to the table, and how we might move on once he's no longer with the Celtics, and whether trading him now would make the Celtics a better, stronger team both now and going forward.

Granted, within all of that, there is much to discuss and debate, but I that would only be "Ray Bashing" to someone who is sentamentally attached to the player instead of the team.

Seriously, enough Ray bashing.  Starting to sound like fair weather fans with all of it.  He does what all great shooters do.

2 small points.  Larry Bird is the best 3point shooter of all time. Ray is adequate on defense.

When Andre Miller abuses Ray, I think its fair to say Celtics got problems. And that $18 mil exp contract is a worth alot when so many teams are pushing hard to get under the cap for 2010 free agency.

Maybe it has to do with the fact Miller is a point guard. Ray is supposed to defend on shooting guards. Put KG on LeBron James and then you will be able to claim that KG can't defend anymore, just because he was defending a position against which he is not comfortable.

I agree with the OP that all the Ray bashing is really getting old, and it's quite unfair. But Ray has always been the scapegoat since he plays for the Celtics so, sadly, there is nothing to be surprised about.

where is all the Paul Pierce bashing? Why only Ray? When Paul fouled out and TA came in the celtics looked a whole lot better defensively, and Paul bogged down the offense down the stretch as well. Does that mean we should trade him or start TA?

You don`t watch games do you? He turns the ball over pretty much every time he dribbles, he is not a good passer and is a poor defender. On offense he can`t create his own shot and is not even hitting the open threes anymore.

He regressed this season immensely and is nothing more than a role player at this point...

That is not bashing, that is reality...

I feel like people too many people on this team have Ray on their fantasy teams or something.  Sure, his stats have regressed, but other than that, I'm not seeing all that much regression.  Yes, he's been a shooting slump, but that has nothing to do with age.

I think the much more likely story about him and Pierce is that they're not all that motivated right now.  And who can blame them.  Ainge sent a message loud and clear to the team that the regular season didn't matter when he decided that every player with so much as the sniffles should sit out a game.  Can't really blame the team for not killing themselves every game when that's the mentality.

Wait for the playoffs.  Plenty of teams have half-assed in the regular season and done fine in the playoffs.

And God knows that the 2008 team killing themselves during the regular season didn't give them a competitive edge in the playoffs, as they barely staved off elimination in the first and second rounds.

Agreed.  Also, the above comment makes it sound like Andre Miller is some sort of scrub, which makes no sense to me.  Miller is an excellent player, despite having some struggles in Portland due to sharing responsibilities with Roy.

My thing is this, and I pose this question to anyone here:

Imagine the headlines on ESPN, Boston Globe or Herald tomorrow morning---"Boston trades Ray Allen!"

Now--Who could Boston Realistically bring in to replace him that is worth everything that Ray brings to us AND can still allow Boston to compete not only for the playoffs BUT for the Title as well?

Realistically?

And who we could count on to be a Clutch outside shooter?

Dwyane Wade? Joe Johnson? These are two names that pop off the top of my mind...and would ATL or MIA be willing to trade either of these two for Ray Allen? Realistically?

Anyone Less than these two and we can count Banner 18 goodbye...and even then could Dwyane or Joe fit in in time enough for Boston to make our Championship run this year?

Boston's not a "Plug and Play" Team...If Joe or Dwyane came here, they would most certainly have to sacrifice something.

Sure he has challenges defensively, but the entire team has been having that issue, too.

My thing is this: Let Ray shoot himself out of his mini-funk, re-sign him to a lesser contract (With Boston) next year and continue to keep his minutes low.

I think you vastly overrate Rays value and impact to this team.

And this "shooting slump" Ray is supposedly in has been pretty much season long.

Well, everyone has their opinion and is it entitled to it so I'm not going to try and engage in debate here.

I'll just leave it at this....I'd hate to lose a player you know has a knack for hitting big shots down the stretch and is a closer in the sense that when you need someone to ice a game, its an extreme asset to have a 90% free throw shooter on the floor.  At one point or another, having Ray on the floor is going to be HUGE.
