Yeah, if only Perk knew how to play D...
If Perk is hedging on the pick and rolls it's probably because Doc and Tom T have told him to do so. It's then up to his help to defend the cutting big man until Perk can get back. The Dallas game looked like a lot of rotation breakdowns, not bad technique on Perk's fault.
How many times did he end up covering the guard....Someone told him too...LOL
Doubt that. He belongs staying on the lower end of the play, rear to the hoop hover around the paint, not out in guard land. Sure other team members should see that coming also, it is an easy pass to pick off, whoever should be watching that guard..!
what's more likely:
1. that he randomly forgot the way he defends a pick and roll all year and forgot how to play defense on a whim because he stayed at a best western last night?
2. The coaches were trying a new way to limit defensive penetration, which has been a problem all month, off the pick and roll because with KG down they don't have an athletic PF who can cover dynamic PF's like dirk in their system?
I'm gonna go ahead and vote #2.
When Kg is healthy, perk doesn't hedge and let his help try to limit the big. but The fact is neither sheed nor Perk are good Pick and roll guys.
Perk never has been, and it's not his job. he defends the paint.
The problem is sheed is too slow to defend the pick and roll at this stage of his career as well, so it falls on perk, who is no athletic dynamo but better than sheed at his age.
normally they try to stick with the old system and let wallace do it, but he can't against other teams with dynamic PF's (like dirk), though he can do it against teams with more average PF's.
That killed them 3 separate times vs teams with good PF's, most notably the Atlanta games, where smith and horford destroyed them on the pick. They made an adjustment and tried something different last night, it didn't work out.
