No way the Celtics give up a 1st.

Nate limits the trade parters.  He will only accept to a team that he thinks will be in the playoffs.  How many of the sure things are in need of him?

I think the Celtics give up a 1st if it's this year or the next.  Given our recent draft history and our coach's history with young players it's unlikely our 1st rounders for this year or next will play much for us.

I wouldn't agree that there's no way the Cs give up a first, but i think it could take more than Nate straight up.

Let's recall that the Cs have taken Rondo, Perk, Baby, Gomes, Powe, Bill Walker and Amir Johnson (oh wait, i mean Orien Greene) at picks around or below where their 1st will be this year during the Ainge era.

Well, it didn't take long for the Celtics to start denying the rumors (Doc for now, basically), but there you go.

Interestingly enough, I'm not completely sold talks are over. Give it a week. :)

The 1st round pick we'd have to give up no doubt bothers me, but I don't think Nate's getting bought out, so if we want him that badly, that 1st round pick may have to go.

Don't let the pick bother you. The chances we get a player that will ever leave the bench is pretty slim.

You forgot J.R. Giddens, if I'm not mistaken.  Baby and Walker were second rounders.  I'm not sure about Powe.

So Rondo and Perk definitely worked out, but we've had a few misses on late first rounders.  Rondo and Perk also happened to be drafted when the team was bad, so they got plenty of time to play and make mistakes and develop.  Who's to say Giddens couldn't have turned into at least a solid player if he had gotten time and the opportunity to make mistakes?  Who's to say Rondo wouldn't have hung out in the D-league and eventually been dropped by the team if he had been drafted by the C's 2-3 years later?

I just don't think that a late first round talent is going to get the opportunity to play and contribute on this team.  We'll still have a 2nd round pick to get a guy who might be a surprise (a la BBD).
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Why would the Celtics not give up a first round pick?

A key contributor off the bench isn't worth the draft pick?

But was also given some additional info by some1 in the "know"... the ball is in the Knicks court and they want it done...

My problem with the pick is that is is a valuable trade chip that could be used to improve the team as the deadline approaches.  I do not think Robinson is a significant upgrade over House when you consider things like chemistry and leadership, and to give up that asset that could get us a better player, then this deal is even less appealing.

I'm not going to touch the Rondo thing.

And I left off players who suck (Giddens, Pruitt) -- it's a pretty short list. I forgot to add TA and D West.

The point was to show success around or below the pick. The Cs are going to need some young players -- it's been a pretty long time since they've added a rotation player through the draft.

Not saying they won't trade this years pick, but my guess is their more reluctant to than some might think.

interesting. Danny may have insisted it not be raised before the show.

Ordway's never really been known to press in interviews.

Even if Danny had denied outright that there was anything to the rumor, it would mean nothing at all.

One hour before he traded for Wally, he firmly denied that there was anything in the works and said that he had no plans to make any deals.  I don't believe that a trade like that all happened in less than an hour.   Even if he is on hold with a GM working out the final stages of a deal, I bet he would say there was nothing going on.

I couldn't make this work on the trade machine without including other players. The most reasonable scenario I came up with was:

House, Walker, Scalabrine, and Tony Allen

for

Robinson, Jeffries, and Chandler.

I can't imagine this happening. I know the Knicks badly want to dump Jeffries for expirings, but they're giving up the best two players in this trade to make it happen. I also don't think that the Celtics owners would like taking on Jeffries salary (x2) either. The Knicks would also have to waive somebody.

I don't know why I waste my time on this stuff.
