to say Rondo wouldn't have hung out in the D-league and eventually been dropped by the team if he had been drafted by the C's 2-3 years later?

  I'll say it.

No way the Celtics give up a 1st.
Why would the Celtics not give up a first round pick?

A key contributor off the bench isn't worth the draft pick?

It depends on which 1st rounder, I think.  One rumor is that the Knicks are asking for a future draft pick.  Would I give up a 2013 first rounder for Nate Robinson?  No.  However, a pick this year might be worth trading, since it may be seen as just a drag on our salary cap for a non-contributor.

  • You say when......
Trade Scal for David Lee...! Nate, I guess so, never really saw him play this year.....They say he scores, but so did Allen Iverson....does he shoot 200 shots per game, then brag about hitting for 20-30 points..? That isn't a point guard...!

Just listen to Danny Ainge doing his weekly spot with the Big Show, and zero mention of any trades being done..but Glenn never asked either.

interesting. Danny may have insisted it not be raised before the show.
Glenn likes to bring out something if its there as rumor,i think he hasn't heard anything about it.Glenn is like a soapbox.

I doubt he hasn't heard it,  It is on WEEI.com, and I would guess is on the flash.  More likely, he either thought it wasn't a strong enough rumor to bring up (my guess), or if you like the conspiracy theories, Danny asked him not to ask about it, because it actually is in the process, and Danny did not want to discuss it (or deny it) until it is finalized.  Glenn and Danny are old friends, and Glenn knows how to keep his guests happy, so he would have done that.

Well, it didn't take long for the Celtics to start denying the rumors (Doc for now, basically), but there you go.

Interestingly enough, I'm not completely sold talks are over. Give it a week. :)

The 1st round pick we'd have to give up no doubt bothers me, but I don't think Nate's getting bought out, so if we want him that badly, that 1st round pick may have to go.

Don't let the pick bother you. The chances we get a player that will ever leave the bench is pretty slim.

My problem with the pick is that is is a valuable trade chip that could be used to improve the team as the deadline approaches.  I do not think Robinson is a significant upgrade over House when you consider things like chemistry and leadership, and to give up that asset that could get us a better player, then this deal is even less appealing.

Eddie House is a leader?

This is pure conjecture on my part but I would say this trade is in the works and will happen. Also, it wouldnt surprise me to see something else in the form of a "heist" on Ainges part. You know that New York is looking for a big time player to revive their franchise and there are several this summer. Clearing caproom is of paramount importance even second to retaining current talent. This is true with several teams and provides Ainge all of the opportunity he needs.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
If we could get Chandler, along with Robinson. I'd give up a future protected pick.

Absolutely.  I think he is an important chemistry guy, and one of the emotional leaders on this team.  I think this was a huge reason he was kept after Posey left, because they did not want to lose both of them from the lockerroom.

I don't agree that he's a key leader either in the locker room or on the floor for a team filled with them. I'm more concerned with his on the court performence, which has been lacking. The locker room can survive without him if the right deal is available.

If we hear about another sure playoff team sniffing around, then a 1st might be needed.

Until then, Celtics should just wait it out.  At worst, Nate gets bought out.

Latest tweet from the hoopsforum, a reply to FLCeltsfan :

FLCeltsFan No prob... the info I get is from a great source but you know how these things are.. .they are NEVER done until they are DONE

Can't disagree with this tweet... I don't trust Doc or the staff when they say there is nothing going on, it's the standard statements when a trade is in the works.

With that said, I have still doubts, mainly because it would be hard to acquire Nate just with our expirings. So I hope we know sooner rather than later if a deal will be done or not.

You're almost certainly right.  But it's impossible to say for sure.  The point is, when we have a team like this, late 1st rounders aren't likely to develop into much of anything, at least not while they are playing for us.  That makes our late first rounders about as valuable as second round picks, and we already have one of those.  Any pick later than 2012 is a different story, though, since we'll probably be talking about a mid 1st (if not higher) at that point.

I guess we'll find out tonight. Eddie House plays = no trade.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Really?  If they haven't agreed on the trade yet, I imagine Eddie could definitely play and still get traded in a week or so....
