The folks at OptionIt (CelticsBlog sponsor) wanted me to let you know that they are running a deal with reduced prices on options to buy tickets to the Lakers and Magic games coming up.

Lakers on 1/31: https://www.optionit.com/#tmpl=buydetails.tpl/ajax_body/25382

Magic on 2/7: https://www.optionit.com/#tmpl=buydetails.tpl/ajax_body/25384

and of course, don't forget to sign up for a chance at free Finals tickets: see here for details - http://www.celticsblog.com/2010/1/5/1234231/win-tickets-to-see-the-celtics-in

  • Yup
So, you buy the "option to buy" then you decide whether you want to actually buy the real tickets or not?  Why would anyone do one and not the other?
Yup

maybe I am being dense, but with all due respect ( and I do mean, all due respect) this seems like one of the stupidest ideas I have seen in a while.

with all of the available ticket sources around (razorgator, fansnap, etc...) why anyone would pay extra just to have the option to buy the tickets at full price is beyond me.

I realize they are a sponsor...woo hoo lets all spend more...but I dont understand the point

the benefit is that the face value price is locked in

so if you buy the option to buy a playoff ticket at face value, you lock in the total cost

if you wait to buy the playoff ticket via ticket broker, you could end up paying a good deal more

at least that's how it was explained to me - I'm sure the math is different for each case, but it seems like it would make sense for some people in some situations and not for other people - so take it for what it is worth

I think it makes a ton of sense for playoff games, if you're one of the lucky folks to get an option before they become outrageous.

For regular season games, I'm not as sure.
