  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
So based on completely baseless speculation, the Kings might be making a big move soon.

Quote
With the addition of Hilton Armstrong, the Kings now have six players with expiring contracts. The Kings are also expected to get Kevin Martin back this week and Francisco Garcia should be able to play later this month.

Will the Kings, with a plethora of swing-players and expiring contracts, make a trade?

"The whole trading deadline thing is not anywhere near its full regale yet," Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie tells The Sacramento Bee. "We'll see what happens on every front."

So the Kings are rapidly becoming one of my favorite squads. They're one of two NBA teams I will watch on the reg besides the Celtics (the other being the T-Wolves).

So here we go: CONTEST TIME!

Propose your best trade idea to improve the Kings.

RULES:

1. Each trade proposal needs to be run through the Trade Machine, with link to trade posted

2. Can only be one single trade. Can involve multiple teams, but one single trade. Feel free to explain the trade in the post which you propose it. ONE PROPOSAL PER POST! Multiple submissions are okay.

3. Submission deadline is 6pm tonight

4. Winner will be decided by a poll posted on the top of the page after the deadline has passed.

5. Winner will be decided by plausibility, and how much it will improve the Kings.

Prize is 40 TP's for First place, 20 TP's for second place, and 10 TP's for third. First four submissions in proper format get 5 TP's, limited time offer!

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.
Due to Boston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Boston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Here is my try : http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yawbsco

The Kings send Kevin Martin, Francesco Garcia and Jason Thompson to the Wolves.
The Kings receive Al Jefferson, Ramon Sessions and Nathan Jawai.

Sacramento gets rid of two guards with a lot of talent but who are not necessary on the current squad (since the Kings are winning without both of them), and get the inside presence they have desperately been looking for.

Additionnally, they use Sessions as a PG and move Evans to the SG position.

They now have a starting lineup of Sessions/Evans/Casspi/Hawes/Jefferson and a bench of Udrih, Greene, Jawai and Brockman.

Not a really good bench but their starting lineup is pretty good.

And we can assume that Minnesota would agree to the trade because desperately need scorers at the guard and wing position. And because Kahn is stupid anyway. :P

That's actually a pretty good trade for both teams.  Makes sense from a contractual and personnel standpoint.  I think Minnie would be stupid to move Big Al but they're getting back Martin who's a really good player himself that plugs a major hole they have elsewhere.  TP for you whether you win the contest or not.

Here's one:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yg69xmx

A three-way deal between Sacto, Cleveland, and Philadelphia, combining several rumors that have been floating around for a while.

Sacto trades Kevin Martin, and expiring contracts of Kenny Thomas, Sean May, and Sergio Rodriguez
Sacto receives Andre Iguodala, Samuel Dalembert, and JJ Hickson

Cleveland trades Zydrunus Ilgauskas, JJ Hickson, 1st round pick
Cleveland receives Kevin Martin

Philadelphia trades Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert
Philadelphia receives expiring contracts of Kenny Thomas, Sean May, Sergio Rodriguez, and Zydrunus Ilgauskas, plus Cleveland 1st rounder

Sacto moves forward next year with an athletic starting five of Evans, Garcia, Iguodala, Thompson, and Dalembert, with great young depth coming off the bench in Casspi, Hickson, Hawes, and Donte Greene, veteran leadership in Udrih and Nocioni, plus a talented rookie from their high lottery-pick finish this season.

They could also slot in Udrih to start in the backcourt along with Evans, moving Garcia to the bench as a supersub/6th man. And, if Hawes progresses, they can trade Dalembert's expiring contract next year.

This move takes up Sacto's cap space next year, which isn't a bad thing. It's not like free agents are going to flock to a small-market team like Sacramento.

If Philadelphia truly is willing to trade Iggy and Dalembert for McGrady, this trade achieves the same end, and gives them a late 1st rounder to boot.

Cleveland has been rumored to be interested in Martin, who would be a great shooting sidekick to Lebron, or a nice Plan B should Lebron bolt this offseason for big free-agent money.

Kings Send: Kevin Martin, Jason Thompson, Kenny Thomas
Kings Get: Chris Bosh, Rasho Nestrovic

Raptors Send: Chris Bosh, Rasho
Raptors Get: Kevin Martin, Jason Thompson, Kenny Thomas

Why for Kings:

They are about 5 games out of a playoff spot right now, but they're also already only 2 wins shy from their win total for all of last season. They have the leading canidate for ROY in Tyreke Evans, playing a position that former team leader, Kevin Martin, once occupied.

By trading K-Mart and Jason Thompson to the Raptors for Chris Bosh (and Rasho who will probably be waived), they instantly become a playoff team. Their point guard, Beno Udrih, is playing worlds better basketball than he played last season, and the surprising play of Evans and fellow rookie Omar Cassipi has the wings on lockdown.

Now, by upgrading underrated but not that great anyways Jason Thompson to All-NBA caliber Chris Bosh, they're looking at a formidible starting 5.

PG: Beno Udrih/ Sergio Rodriguez
SG: Tyreke Evans/ Donte Greene (Fransico Garcia)
SF: Omar Cassipi/ Nocioni
PF: Chris Bosh/ Sean May
C: Spencer Hawes/ Jon Brockman/ Hilton Armstrong

This team would be far from finished, but at it sits above, they're near or at Playoff caliber, when before they were not.

The incentive is that possibly Chris Bosh will be drawn by the hopes for the future and bigger payday the Kings can offer. It is a huge risk on the Kings' part, but if they can convince Bosh to stick around, this team will be a challenger for leadership in the West in a year or two.

Why for the Raptors:

At some point you have to just see what ya got. Bosh is going to bolt. Toronto brass has had their chances, and honestly maybe they would be better off by looking to see what else they can make happen. Bosh has shown he won't be the guy to lead their team, and the Raptors have shown they can't turn a Bosh led squad into anything more than a first round sweep.

By taking on Kevin Martin they completely change the dynamic of the squad, adding an efficient prime time scorer to the spot currently occupied by the likes of Demarr Derozen and Marco Bellinielli.

By acquiring Jason Thompson they are retaining Bosh's size and comperable rebounding but just taking a sizeable step down in scoring and defense. Jason Thompson might never be an allstar in this league but he's a good young player that can help Toronto right away. Also, this move will allow Toronto to fully evaluate Amir Johnson, who only has 1 year left on his contract.

Kenny Thomas's expiring contract will be allowed to expire, and they will have turned Bosh into 2 fully capable starters.

Boston sends:

Brian Scalabrine
Eddie House
JR Giddens
Tony Allen

Houston sends:

Tracy McGrady
Shane Battier

Toronto sends:

Reggie Evans
Patrick O'Bryant
Marcus Banks

Sacramento Receives:

Chris Bosh
Patrick O'Bryant (filler)
Eddie House
Brian Scalabrine
Tony Allen
Reggie Evans
JR Giddens

Toronto Receives:

Tracy McGrady
Kevin Martin

Houston Receives:

Spencer Hawes
Francisco Garcia
Kenny Thomas

Boston Receives:

Shane Battier
Marcus Banks

For Boston, we are always talking about getting a backup to spell Pierce and Allen, and a backup to spell Rondo.  We receive both in this deal for our expirings.

For Toronto, you give up Bosh and an energy guy in Evans, but you get two scorers (though they are both hurt).  Kevin Martin can be a nice scorer complement to a player the Raptors can pick up in free agency with the help of McGrady's expiring contract.

Houston gives up their leader and an injured player, but receive an expiring $8.7 million contract in Thomas, get a young, good center who can hit outside shots in Hawes, and get an all-around player in Garcia.

Kings give up some talent, yes, but who wouldn't for Bosh? If the Kings are looking for help this year, and looking to pair up their explosive rookie with a big man star, then Bosh is perfect for him.  Plus, the Kings can always attempt to resign Bosh, or use him in a sign and trade in the offseason to upgrade their roster.

The Kings shouldn't try to do too much too fast. Take it slowly and build.

Cap flexibility (Udrih, Garcia, Nocioni) are the best trades followed by young players who the team can use as a building block.

Veteran players are a dodgy target that vary widely depending on talent + age.
