yeah I completely agree... Big Al sucks. He can't play defense.  He's killing the Timberwolves.  What they need is some veteran leadership.  They should trade Al for Rasheed Wallace, Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine.

lol

Kahn is starting to give me the impression he's pretty much an idiot.

Well, it doesn't hurt to make an offer, right?

I mean, this one would have been a fairly decent trade for Minnesota, but it's not terrible in terms of value for Indiana.  Danny Ainge -- somebody most around here consider to be a pretty good GM -- apparently offered Perkins for the #2 pick, and Ray and Rondo for Prince, Hamilton, and Stuckey.  Those deals were quickly rejected; do we consider Danny to be an idiot?

In a year, I could easily see a scenario where Indiana rejects not taking this offer.  Big Al has had some struggles this season, but he's still got perhaps the best low post moves in the entire NBA.  If he gets back to his 23/11 form, I think a lot of teams would be thrilled to have him, even at the expense of a 25 point scoring forward who is battling some injury problems of his own.
I basing that opinion on his total job thus far and also the very open front office that he has that seems to leak just about every move he makes to the press.

I think his choice of Rambis and the triangle offense was really bad considering his personnel. He then went compounded the problem and drafted two point guards and signed another, none of which can shoot well from outside, which is necessary in the triple-post. His handling of the Rubio situation, though fairly predictable, was not good at all. His trades, IMO, have been headscratchers, though I guess he has dumped salary. But he does realize he is in Minnesota and cap space isn't going to do him much good because no one is going to sign big bucks as a free agent to go play basketball all winter in Minnesota, right?

I don't know, I just think he's starting very quickly to look like he's closer to Kevin McHale as a GM than he is to Greeg Popovich.

i can see big al fitting in nicely next to noah in chicago.

thus: jefferson, wilkins sessions and blount
for deng, miller and hinrich

the two clubs swap roughly equal expiring contracts
chicago gets the low post presence the've coveted for a long time.

sota gets their explosive wing and a quality vet point guard. each squad is set up with good young tallent and lots expiring contracts.

chicago's line up:
rose, salmons, ?, noah, jefferson.

sota's:
flynn, hinrich, deng love, miller

Noah and Big Al wouldn't fit together any better than Big Al and Kevin Love do.

Noah's mobility + defensive ability not create a better balance?

Joakim Noah has been very effective at the power forward position when he's played there.

They should on the defensive end.

But that's the problem I don't like Noah at the Center position on defense. He's a ++ rebounder, but I don't like him at that spot otherwise.

Only because Noah is a better defender than Kevin Love. I still don't like Noah or Jefferson at the C spot. Offensively they'd mesh together very well.

Big Al would bring more than that I would think....unless he continues to get injured

agreed. not sure why kahn is an idiot for offering a trade that would clearly create a better fit for the wolves considering their roster and the motion offense rambis is featuring, yet is not insulting in terms of talent exchange.

i can understand why bird said no but i don't think it makes kahn stupid.

If Al is truly on the trading block and Cleveland is still looking to bolster its roster, I wonder if Cle tries to land Al with Big Z's contract and some filler on both sides.

Judging by the offer Kahn made, I don't think he doing a salary dump. My guess is he's looking for the right type of fit on an equal level talent swap to insert into the starting lineup and make Rambis' triangle offense run better. I wonder if Sacramento wouldn't be a bad place for Kahn to go looking for a trade of Big Al.

Maybe Kevin Martin and Jason Thompson for Al Jefferson and Nathan Jawai.

imo chicago makes out very well in this trade. noah's got the mobility to guard quicker or perimeter oriented bigs.
big al has never been a great defender but playing along side a tenaciously competitive psycho like noah should mask his weaknesses to some extent.

on offense noah spreads the floor allowing big al to dominate in the post. the combo isn't KG+KP but the young combo would be a force.

sota also wins in the deal. they have been lacking any punch from the wing and deng brings that and then some. not only is he a terrific scorer but he is a strong and versatile defender (what they hope brewer becomes). sota also gets a heck of a player in hinrick and a stop gap center in miller. essentially they get more experience and better spacing.

the teams essentially swap expiring contracts and can address other needs in the offseason.
all in all i think it works out well for both clubs

Marc Stein has Kahn on the record as denying he's shopping Big Al.

I don't buy it.
