I still see a minor move or two at the end of the bench.

You know, that under the radar that can make a big difference in the playoffs that no one pays attention to at the deadline.

I tend to agree with this.  A trade is going to be somewhat tough.  I don't want to trade Ray for a variety of reasons.  Scal and Tony could maybe fetch something; however, can they nab someone who can really crack a playoff rotation of our starters plus Wallace, Daniels, Davis, and House?  And if such a trade can't nab someone who breaks that playoff rotation, is it really worth bringing in a new face to be the 10th or 11th man or are we better off with two guys who know the system?

With this down economy it would seem there would be some buy-outs and teams wanting expiring contracts. Hoping we can trade some combination of Scal, Giddens, Sheldon, Walker and a draft pick for something that could help us this year. I don't see those 4 players putting over-the-top for a championship.

As good as this team can be, it is obvious that we still have two weaknesses (though one is bigger than the other).  No back up PG whatsoever and I still think we need a legit three to back up PP.  I like what Allen has been doing since he came back but to a large degree, him and Daniels overlap.  They both are smallish threes who can run some PG in a pinch.  Neither one can shoot a lick.  The difference between the two is that Daniels is smarter and Allen more athletic (admittedly, Daniels is the better player because of his versatility).

Money aside, I would love to have Posey back.  He would bring the heady play, spot up shooting, and defensive versatility that neither Daniels and Allen can bring.

As for the PG, I am thinking we will have to rely on getting someone of the scrap heap, which I am okay with.  Maybe Skip... but I am not sure.  Maybe Lue?  I just am not sure than the right guy will be available to I would concentrate on the SF position instead.

I would LOVE Posey back too!! He was awesome in Boston and we should've resigned him after the '08 season.

posey is not playin the same ball...he has gotten chubby...and i dont see his 3's fallin like it use ta..

The Celts just need to go out and get a very good bench player. As the deadline nears teams are going to feel the affect of the economy. Teams like New Orleans. I wouldn't mind Posey as long as he came in with the same mentality as he once had. I really think that would pick the team up a lot like Pierce, KG, And Allen. But other then that i am not sure what is out there. Will be interesting. I would like something like or expiring for one big expiring that can come in help out right away but open up cap space for 2010.. At least a little bit of money.

I'd be surprised if Danny doesn't move some of the expiring deals (not Ray) for a bench player that can contribute now and at least next year.

There's a lot of spots opening up after this year and none of those players are "must keeps" except Ray (since we likely will not be able to upgrade on him this offseason).  With only draft picks, the MLE and vet min contracts to offer next year, Danny has to consider what he can do to add to the team both this year and next.

I agree with what someone said above, if Danny cannot bring in a player that would crack the rotation, I don't see him making a deal.  He'll most likely pick up someone who's waived.  Possibly move Giddens/Walker in a POB-type move to free up another spot if he sees more than 1 player worth getting off waivers.

Not saying I disagree with that; however, I do think that some people are overly eager to improve what (when healthy) are our 10th, 11th, 12th, and in some cases IR guys.  I agree that depth is nice, but come playoff time, unless the "new guy" can beat out Wallace, Daniels, Davis, and House, he isn't likely to make much of a difference unless there's an injury.

While you could certainly argue that another wing or another PG would be nice, in the case of the wing, I might be more content with Tony Allen right now than what some might perceive to be a marginal upgrade.  At least with Tony we know that he'll be content riding the pine, knows the plays, and has a chemistry with the players.  Will another bench player who is used to playing be content with that?

Now if there's an undeniable talent upgrade out there, I'm all about it.  I'm just not sold that upgrading the very end of our bench is all that important.
