They are probably honest about his injury but not about his expected date of return.

OK, first of all I want to say that I'm not creating this thread as an "Doom! We're done, KG is hurt!" thread but I just want to know what you feel and think about the staff's statements about KG's injury.

So, after KG was announced out for 10 days, it has been announced that he will be out 10 more days :
Quote
"KG's still 10 days, maybe, I don't know," said Rivers. "I have no idea, I honestly don't. There is some history with hyperextended knees that we kind of know that it takes at least two weeks, sometimes three. We know it won't be longer than that, but we don't know how quickly. There's a history there -- not with [Garnett] -- but with league history."

We all remember that last year, what was at first a minor injury kept him sidelined for more and more time. Doc would always give a date of return - usually short - and then explain that KG was out longer than expected but that everything was OK.

That's why I'm worried about these last statements because they sure look a lot like last year's. And the "I don't know" part is Doc's quote is scary if you ask me, since he could really say, in 10 days, that KG is out longer, and so on...

So, knowing that none of us has insights on KG's situation, do you think the staff is just being extremely cautious with KG - and maybe paranoid - (and thus honest in its statements) or are they hiding the truth from the fans like last year?

I hope that they're just being cautious but after last season, who the heck really knows?

My guess is that they're watching how his knee is responding, KG could play on it but they want him to be completely healed before he's put back in.

Doc and Danny both know that KG needs to be healthy for the playoffs if the Celtics are to have a chance.

I have my doubts they are always very vague with the injury reports. I was starting to trust them after his return, but with the recent injuries I'm unsure. Right now I don't know if it's the the knee, thigh bruise, his back, etc. They've been a bit unclear with the recent injuries. I don't know if it was mentioned on this blog, but it seem Pierce had a second procedure on his knee as well.

Does Doc ever NOT say "I don't know" when discussing returns from injury? They've also had people come back from injury well ahead of "schedule".

This is true.  But last year they also knew they needed him for the playoffs and they skipped the necessary surgery and made a bad attempt at playing KG after some rest and rehab.  I hope things go better this year!  I'm all for giving KG as much time as he needs, even if it's a month or two.  I hope it's as minor and unrelated to the previous injury as they say, but we already heard that story during KG's attempted comeback last year.

I say shut him down until after All-Star break (Feb 14th). Who cares? We have 11 more victories than the current 8th seed and could probably play way above 500 if everybody but him were healthy. I'd rather be careful and have KG 100% healthy for the playoffs than win some meaningless games in January.

They didn't skip a surgery for no reason. If KG had had the surgery once they realized the seriousness of his condition he wouldn't have been close to being back for the playoffs.

I have no clue.

As long as he is healthy and in sync come playoff time, I really don't care how long he is out.

I'm going to be depressed if he doesn't play Friday at least for 10 minutes. It's my first Celtics game, and I've been looking forward to this since November. KG is my fav player of ALL TIME, and this just proves my luck. I wish him the best of health so we can win a championship...but who knows when the next time I get this opportunity to see him play
Can't stop, Rondo!
