The #1 thing this team needs is a pushy, scoring, shooting, passing back-up point guard (ie: Nate Robinson, Kirk Hinrich, Luke Ridnour etc...)

The #2 thing needed is a shooting guard/small forward that has the ability to shoot from outside, score, ball handle and draw double teams (ie: Jerry Stackhouse)

either 1 will do or even both if we could get.

I believe Lester Hudson could probably fit that point guard role as back-up, but Doc is too much in his ear. He's thinking too much and not playing.

J.R. did exactly what the coach asked him to do (rebound and defend). My question is how will he fit on this team, how will he get playing time? You got Pierce, Ray, TA, House, Scal and Quis are all ahead of him... I just don't see how we're going to use him. He'll rot on the bench when the team gets healthy.

Bill Walker is another one that may rot on the bench or stay in the D-League. I just don't see how he's going to get minutes with all the above players listed are ahead of him.

Anyhow great game! surprising win ;D

Interesting post, Rtpas11, but I think we do have a b/u point guard in Tony and a b/u small forward/big in Big Baby.

What we need is health. This team is loaded.

Totally agree. And I believe we'll get there.

How often does Big Baby play small forward?  Just because he is undersized doesn't mean that he is a small forward.  What he lacks in height, he makes up for with his frame.  Putting him at the 3 would be very poor utilization of his skill set.

I also have a hard time seeing TA as our answer at point.  He's looked good so far this season, but he has a history of being a turnover machine...and the turnovers have a tendency of coming at the worst possible moments.  Hopefully this was just due to nagging injuries.

I don't really think we're in real need of anything, provided we're healthy by the time that the games really start to count.  Daniels is a solid backup behind Pierce and we can surely come up with something at the point, between House, Tony and Hudson.

As far as Giddens doing what Doc wanted, the OP mentions rebounding. He had 2 rebounds in 20 minutes, which is two more than the maganificent Scal had in almost 15 minutes. Other than that, I agree with the OP's sentiments and really think that Lester should be given a shot at backup PG. For the most part he looks comfortable on the floor and under control.

  • You say when......
You know asa far as TA is concerned, at some point you need to beleive what you see now, not what you saw last year, this is who he is, after the recovery, knee surgery is a year or more, not a week or a month after...KG is also starting to show that recovery takes more time, you over compensate with the other leg, then have probs with it also, besides the mental side of beleiving it is ready...TA now is playing his game, give him credit for what he is doing...

On the subject of TA I'd like to point out one other thing: I was at tonight's game, and he almost tore his ACL AGAIN after his dunk. He came down on one leg, just like he did in 2006 on that after the whistle dunk. He was soooo close to coming down in the wrong way and having his knee absorb it. Luckily, the energy of the landing was transferred to his hip. Seriously. Thank god. it would suck so much if he went down AGAIN.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Well when will all of these guys be healthy again?! I mean its crazy. We are not going to play teams the talent level of the raptors every night. I do believe the Celtics need to make a move to get a big scorer off the bench. Nate could be the answer no matter how much you don't like him he is capable to do the job and with the right guys in his ear he will shut up and just play ball. But I really want a new face on the bench. We need one, We need one that scares teams. I just don't think teams are scared of our bench. We need that one guy and then we have a scary bench. We really do. Hopefully Danny see's that and makes a move. I mean a lot of you are going to read this ans say well Eddie doesn't scare teams?! Sheed Doesn't scare teams?! No i really don't think they do. Both of them are addicted to the 3 point shot and both can be contained. But if we get that one guy that people will focus on like a Nate or someone that can just straight up score and is a SG or something then it will open things up so much more! I don't want another just sign and doesn't play in the Postseason! I want a new Face that scares the LEAGUE! COME ON DANNY!

Uh...yeah...what is this about "scaring" teams? We're 24-8, for crying out loud; that's pretty good for a team that can't "scare" anyone. You know, "best in the East" good? Look at the Lakers. It's like they need Kobe to shoot a buzzer beater every night just to win, and who does ESPN more or less favor to win the championship? What about the Cavs? Shaq's old, but a shorter guy looking up at him knows he can send that shot into the second row. And do I need to tell you about Lebron? I dunno, I think this scaring/intimidation thing you want from the Celtics is overrated. Like you think because they're not taking care of teams the way you want them too, teams aren't afraid of them when in reality they never really were. We just played better early on last year and the year before when we won #17.

That said...like I said before on Nate, if Nate gets bought out by the Knicks, let's starting discuss him then.

I like Lester Hudson; as he matures as a player, he won't have as much of Doc in his ear.

We all love the player Rajon Rondo has become -- we all used to complain Doc was in his ear too much.  At some point, can we credit Doc with Rajon's improvement?

To the OP's mention of Kirk Hinrich -- I would love that guy on this team.  He would be a great backup 1 and 2 (ie: he would solve both the problems the OP mentions).
Celtics fan for life.

In my opinion we absolutely need a (3) small forward, because PP looks to be out for a lot, and Daniels, like every year, is usually out, and he can't shoot....

That play was certainly a reminder of his big injury.  It looked to me like he let himself fall down in order not to hurt himself (might have fallen anyway but he didn't even try to stay upright).
Made me think of how injury lingers on in the memory...

Yeah Hudson had some bad defensive plays that lead to easy shots and bad turnovers. Of course Doc is going to get on him about those, that's what coaches do!

If we're going to make a trade Kirk Hinrich would probably be my first choice unless another need crops up.
