It's 100% a confidence thing with JR. I'm a New Mexico Lobos fan, and this is not the same player that led the Mountain West Conference in scoring his senior year. Contrary to what some are posting, HE DOES HAVE THE SKILLS. He was never a phenominal shooter, but he was a very effective scorer in college. He was all over the court making things happen, and WANTING the ball in college. I thought he might be as good as another fellow Lobo, Danny Granger ... who's turned out to be quite an NBA player.
Part of the confidence thing I blame on Doc. Instead of telling JR to get in the flow of the offense and look for his shot, he tells him to concentrate ONLY on defense and rebounding. The C's are playing 4 on 5 on offense with JR in there, because, especially in the first half, they NEVER look for him at all. He just stands out of the way. That's got to be per Doc's instruction. I mean, what's that gonna do for a guy's confidence? When he finally does get the ball, of course he's gonna lack the aggression to quickly look for his shot.
If Doc doesn't think JR has what it takes to play on both ends, he just shouldn't put him in. Frankly, I've given up on JR, and it's obvious to me he won't get over his lack of confidence ... not sure where it came from, but it just doesn't look like Doc is helping it. It's too bad.
