He just needs to put it up. It's a confidence thing.
Indeedy.

right. a hitch? he didn't have it in college.

he's got no belief in his game, and it shows.

Well, this isn't quite college basketball.
In his college highlights I don't recall him catching and shooting all that much. That's what he really has to get comfortable with to play in the NBA. His size, defensive ability, and rebounding would get him a spot on an NBA roster if he could just catch and make a few a shots.

congratulations on 800 tps i am just lazy to look for that thread
Thanks!  8)

Let's make it 801 shall we?

It's not a pump fake, it's a hitch. He just isn't comfortable shooting the ball. It has always been his problem (because when he puts it on the floor, it's a catastrophe waiting to happen). It's a shame, because he plays very good defence and moves well off-the-ball.
You're right.  It's definitely a hitch, rather than a pump fake.  Looks like Doc agreed, because he took him out, as soon as I posted this lol.

What exactly is Giddens good at?  He is afraid to shoot, can't pass and has no handles.

He can shoot, just needs playing time/ How do you expect a guy who before tonight never played 8 minutes in an NBA game and do everything right? Give him time Doc! Everything will come. This was basically his NBA debut.
Hudson hasn't had much time either, however I came away impressed by his performance.

Lester Hudson shows flashes every-time he plays. I think he could have a future with the Celtics.

I like Hudson better as well.  Giddens has not impressed me at all.  I still can't believe we passed on Mario Chalmers & Chris Douglas-Roberts in the 2008 draft to pick Giddens.

I realized something shocking tonight about our "kids"... the reason we don't play them is actually because they suck.  All this time, some of the members of this forum had me convinced the reason why we didn't play them was because of a conspiracy headed by Doc Rivers to avoid playing guys who could help the team.   It's comforting to know our coach isn't insane and that the youngsters are just scrubs.

Most likely.

They are small money trade fitters.  Nothing more.

Agree 100 percent in regards to Giddens and Walker, but think there is some promise in Hudson and would like to see him a little more.

I tend to lean this way, too, but I'll temper it by saying that you can't fairly judge a player by what little we've seen of these "kids" ... but then, important games are not the opportunity one wants to give them to prove themselves. A bit of a catch-22 for me because I'd like to see some more of them before tossing them in this collective "trash-bin", and I would want a bit more of a chance to prove myself if it were me in that situation. It's certainly not much more of a gamble than Scal is ... despite his likability.

I disagree.  Giddens and Hudson both looked like NBA players tonight.  Both played very good defense against a very good offensive team, and that's exactly what we needed from them.

You hear almost every rookie talk about it - how tough it is to learn when and when not to shoot.  That's what's going on with Giddens and, to a lesser extent, Hudson.  If he gets playing time - here or elsewhere - I expect to see that become less and less of problem as he learns to perform his role.

I know a lot of us had visions of Giddens exploding for 25 points and 12 boards in his first start, so when you looked back at his box score your reaction is "GIDDENS SUCKS!"  He actually played well tonight for the most part - especially in the first half.  He kept their perimeter guys in check, which is exactly what we needed.  I'd like to see him work with TA on how to be a good rebounder as a guard - he tries to go up with Perkins and Sheed like he's a PF, and that doesn't help all that much.

I think Giddens has a lot of those mystery intangibles that Scal has --  ;D

No, he plays legitimate good defense, which Scal noticeably lacks.

Giddens is being bad at basketball too much.

He has the all the physical tools. He just lacks the skills.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

giddens played really well in the first half tonight.  however, in the second half, after the adrenaline settled and reality kicked in, he looked lost in the second half.  passing up shots, forcing the drive when it wasnt there, lost on defensive rotations, etc.

im happy that he contributed and rooted him on.  its tough not to root for the guy when he has a positive attitude and hustles the way he does....i just dont think he's that good.

If Giddens is smart, he'll start ball hawking his next time on the court.  If you scared to shoot, take it to the hole YOUNGN!...how many NBA players make careers off dunks/alley oops, and penetration<along with defense>  I can't feel sorry for this guy...clocks tickn/windows closing. YOour in the NBA...do you want it or not--lets go!<signed td jakes>
