What exactly does anyone think we could get for Rasheed?
I bet we "have a shot at" Gilbert.

Ha...Gilbert's has given us some many play on words.  Good stuff.

I actually had to push myself to press "post" on that one. It's getting old fast, isn't it? ;)

Nothing good. Rasheed is pretty much untradeable.

The guy was the most sought after of the "MLE" free agents, with multiple teams willing to offer what we did for him, and he's untradeable? I doubt that's the case.

The Spurs and Magic wanted him right?

They don't match up with trading for anything that would help the C's. Rasheed isn't tradeable because he's desirable only to a select few teams.

What multiple teams? The Spurs? I've read McDyess was their first option and I doubt they'd be willing to trade him for Sheed now. The Magic? I guess they'd trade for him just for the sake of preventing Boston from throwing the Perkins/Sheed combo at Howard, but what would they offer? I don't see any other team willing to trade for Sheed. Maybe the Mavs, but I bet they will try to grab something better with Dampier+Gooden+prospect.

I don't see the risk being worth the potential reward in any reasonable scenario involving a trade of Rasheed -- unless it's future reward you are looking for.  For this years' campaign, I can't see anyone coming in, fitting in immediately and giving the C's more than Wallace does.  He also has been more focused of late on the post and will play more down low in the playoffs.

One more comment: trading Rasheed after the full-court press to get him at the sound of the FA bell last year seems counter-productive to me.  Yes, everyone knows that "it's a business", however, businesses reap what they sow. If we ship out Sheed after 3 months, any future FA who is deciding between the lure of a championship opportunity in Boston v. a similar lure in LA, San Antonio, Orlando, Miami..., will think twice about opting for the cold winter.

TP Neurotic Guy for succinctly reflecting the general sentiment of this thread (and mine) that trading Sheed is a bad idea for many reasons. The most salient comment and perhaps the comment of most import is regarding how disingenuous the Big Three, Danny Ainge, Doc and the whole Celtic organization would look to both prospective free agents and their agents if we did this on the heels of the recruiting trip and consequent love-fest press conference and welcoming of Sheed and his family into the Celtic family, never mind the fact that it just feels wrong. Yah, I understand it's a business, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do the right thing.

Bad idea, bad karma....No thanks.

Well, one could argue that's enough reason to say that Rasheed shouldn't be traded. To me, Rasheed Wallace is the toughest 7 footer that can shoot from long range out there; he can defend as well as he can shoot for a big man. Those guys don't come often. He is the complete opposite of Toronto's big men, for example. That's enough reason to keep him; who can we get like him in a trade that could help us? It's not like he's even doing terribly; he's doing quite well. He's actually going into the post more as opposed to hanging out behind the arc, including tonight.

Seriously...this topic wasn't even worth my time when I first saw it. I still can't say I agree, that's for sure.

I love Rasheed and Big Baby, but I don't see what the excitement is about for Williams. He seems to contribute nothing but fouls.

This is not a trade to be thought about in the here and now.

I agree.  This is a trade to be thought about when Sheed is an expiring contract.

I know that there were other teams (like at least the Cavs) that were interested in signing Sheed. If you're claiming that none of the contending teams would have any interest in having a 7 footer that plays as well as Sheed I strongly disagree. Look at the way teams were going after players like Mikki Moore and Joe Smith last year. Start going down the list of contenders, then rule out the ones that are completely happy with their starting and backup bigs. You won't rule out many teams.

i think that because we have rasheed now, ubuntu no longer fits this team. rasheed puts himself above the team. he's gonna do what he wants. sorry, that's called selfish. i hate his attitude. i'm so sick of his whining about the refs. it hurts a little that he's wearing celtic green for me right now. i just have to avoid hearing quotes of his. we need him to win it all. i'm bummed we need this type of teammate though.
