Perks D needs improvement, he gets lost on the pick and roll, he should end up in the paint, he goes low, the other C goes high, basics he would have learned in college...he is coming along greatly, his O is on the money, sheldon is solid and will get better with more time playing with the C's....

Uh what? I'm really confused here, Perk does not get lost on the pick and roll

Perk and KG are the best two defenders down low.  They have the best understanding of the defensive rotations.  After them, knowledge of the rotations seems strongest in Scali, Wallace, Davis and finally Williams.

Perk is where he is suppose to be on defense.  Just listen to the other players and coaches talk about his defense.

Well, it is just my opinion, and yours, no big deal, we'll be watching him and we'll see, that is all we can do.

True.

But it is the opinions of his teammates and coaches (as they have stated) he is where he is suppose to be.

I'd be very happy to unload Wallace and his horrible 3 year deal.  He's washed up.  He is horribly inefficient on offense and he has no legs anymore.  I'd be thrilled to unload him if we could find a taker.

Oh give me a break!! Let me guess, we should trade him to Minnesota for Al Jefferson or Ryan Gomes, right? Please. We need a player like Rasheed Wallace if we want to consider contending for a title this year.

The only thing semi wrong with Sheed at the moment is his poor three point shooting percentage... And what has that done to the team? Well...nothing really, we are still 23 - 8, which is good for top three in the East. Everything Sheed has done has fit perfect for us. Defense, stretching the floor, low post play... If he starts hurting us then maybe we can discuss this but until then its pointless... Let him get the bad shots out now so come playoff time he'll have found his range.

Perk does, in fact, get lost on the pick and roll sometimes. He is by far the most overrated defender on this board. His strong point is putting a body on guys. Other than that, he is average in most other aspects of defense.

I honestly think Rasheed's real worth will come to light in April/May/June when we have to play the likes of Orlando & Los Angeles.

I think more harm than good can happen to this team by trading Sheed right now.

While I did start the thread, I am still up in the air about whether we should trade Rasheed or not. But I do contend with the notion that we HAVE to have Rasheed to contend this year. He's added a bunch this year defensively but offensively he might be a liability with the way he can just shoot you out of a lead with his three point chucking.

Also, if we trade Rasheed we still have, over last year's playoff team that went to 7 games of the second round, a much improved Perk, a much improved Rondo, a hopefully healthy KG, Marquis Daniels, Sheldon Williams and then whoever we would nab in the trade. As long as the starters are healthy, we have a shot at winning it all and as much as Rasheed could be a great contributor in the playoffs, he could be a liability with his hot head, technicals, and poor outside shooting.

For instance, say come before  the deadline the Hornets still hadn't reduced their payroll below the luxury tax and had to move $3.5 million in payroll and a trade was made sending Rasheed, Scal, Tony, Walker, Hudson and Eddie and $1.5 million to New Orleans and getting back David West, Julian Wright, Marcus Thornton and Darren Collison in return would the team going healthy into the playoffs be all that worse if this was their rotation

Rondo/Collison/Hudson
Allen/Daniels/Thornton
Pierce/Daniels/Wright
KG/West/Williams
Perk/Baby

This trade saves New Orleans $3.4 million, minimum and more if they decide to use the $1.5 million we send them to buy out someone, who we might then resign.

Would the Hornets be giving up some promising young talent in Collison and Thornton and Wright? Sure. But the long and short term savings of money and influx of 41.5 million might be more important to that franchise soon enough.
