I'm sorry, I cant tolerate my favorite player, Kevin Garnett, scoring 10/10/12/16 points over the last 4 games. I'm sick and tired of seeing him shooting 17-18 foot jumpers, and one-dribble left contested fade-away jumpers from 20 ft. He needs to get his butt back down on the blocks and go to work.
I live in the midwest, and so i haven't seen every single game, but for all of the games I have seen of boston this year, I have yet to see KG do or use his patented shimmy-shake turnaround out of the post, not once have i seen that.
Its games like these, against Golden State, that he has to make running teams play defense, because taking jumpers and being passive, helps compensate for the defensive shortcomings.
KG's got to get back in the post and be an offensive threat, especially with paul out, but I dont remeber that last time KG has drawn a dbl. team. I think KG thinks he is helping or making it easier for the other guys, buy being passive offensively and only taking jumpers, but in actuality he is kind of hurting the offense.
As a big, being able to step out and hit a mid-range jumper is no longer a rare luxory that it once was. It is now almost completely the norm, almost every team has at least 1 big who can step out and stretch the floor(think about it, go through all of the teams in the league and think about it). So defenses are prepared for that throughout the league, and is no longer a major advantage or exploitation of the opposing teams defense. don't get me wrong, its still a valuable threat but, right now a rarity is having a bigs who are able to do damage in the post offensively. ( we have 2+ of those 3 if you count perk, in addition to Sheed and KG)
If KG continues to shoot jumpshots only, he loses some of his value. because he becomes purely a "jumpshooting" big man, instead of a big man who can step out and hit the jumper.
As a majority of the time, KG being the most offensively talented big man everytime he steps out on the floor, I feel he needs to be more selfish offensively, and specifically in the post. He needs to make it a goal, every night to force teams to double team him down on the blocks. It would open up things so much for guys like Eddie and Ray, and would give Rondo more room to operate, and with a slightly improved jumper, could use it more effecitvely, because defenses would have Rondo's man, leave him to go dbl. KG in the post.
Overall, I just feel KG is hurting the offense by not being a force down in the paint. Teams aren't really viewing him as much of an offensive threat anymore, and I think he is sort of like a wasted weapon right now. And this would not change how the celtics play offensively, as far as scoring by committee, because like i said, KG does enough damage in the post to cause a dbl. team, that opens things up obviously for the perimeter players, it gets the defense in foul trouble, especially the bigs.
Maybe I'm asking for to much, but I can't help but think about watching a game where KG and Rasheed Wallace are just absolutely destroying the post, and teams began dbl. teaming, and then Sheed and Kev start kicking it out, and then Ray and Paul catch fire, while Rondo is slashing, and making the extra pass. etc.
