if Scal starts then boston will lose by 20 plus. he cannot guard Pietrus nor Carter...and Ray cannot handle carter....he has his hands full with Pietrus...

bigger question is how does boston match up off the bench? who plays the 2?

Carter is overrated.

Exactly...he is a Volume Shooter, probably even more so than our Antoine Walker was. As long as we deny him the ball and shoot a little better than we did in our last contest against ORL, then we can pull this off.

Imagine the Headline on ESPN later Christmas Night:

"And the Celtics Pull off a Christmas Miracle in ORL without Paul Pierce".....

he is streaky and when he is on he is very good....and boston has no answer for him without PP...

Carter is overrated.

he is better than anyone boston has to guard him....and boston has nobody that can produce offensively at the SF spot...and god help us if Ray allen gets into foul trouble....

Rondo, Ray, Perkins, Sheed, House, KG can all help us overcome a weakness at the SF spot.

Making a trade to cover for Pierce being out for two weeks is pointless. No point in trading away depth you will need later in the season, especially with an older team.  Wyc has already come out and said they will not pursue anybody to replace PP. TA has played well as a starter the last few years, in 13 starts over the last two years he has averaged about 12 ppg which isnt great but acceptable, and under 2 TO's a game in 31 mpg, so he seems to stay under control. He even has shot 9-20 from 3 in those games, but thats obviously a small sample.

As for Vince, he is shooting 40% from the field and if he gets knocked down early he will settle for jumpers all game, 77% of his shots this year are jumpers, thats a higher % than Ray. Now Vince is a very good shooter, but i rather make him settle for long jumpers rather than him going to the hoop. TA just needs to make him work, which he is capable of.  The Celtics will be fine, it sucks that PP is out but its only two weeks.

People actually want to start either Giddens or Walker? Tweo guys who in their short NBA careers have done absulutely nothing to justify starting roles. I don't get it. Tony ALlen has played well since coming back and will be starting.

Good point, but Vince has been streaky all year from what I've seen. He went like 5-15 last game they played on Tues I believe and scored 19 points..gets to the line a lot, though.

If Vince goes 5-15 on Christmas against us and we hit maybe 6-7 percent more shots than last time we met, we pull this off, IMO. I just have that feeling..I've seen Boston counted out too many times before and they proved people wrong.

Everyone here is certainly right to worry, but I don't worry anymore..not since Game 4 of 2007-2008 NBA Finals.....shucks, look at how hard it was for ORL to put us away without KG last year.

it is going to be tony and scal...tony will play carter better on defense..that is why he will start...dont know how much they will get out of him offensively

this team is beat up.....3 KEY guys are out and now they must lean heavy on guys like scal, TA and walker who really weren't in the rotation's plans to start the season

just read this from Ainge:

Ainge said Kevin Garnett (right thigh bruise) is expected to return soon, following a one-game absence. Garnett arrived with the team in Orlando Wednesday afternoon.

"I don't know when for KG," Ainge said. "He may play, but it will be a game-time decision Friday. I think he's fine -- it's not anything structural. He wanted to play (Tuesday) night but we're being cautious."

I don't think this injury hurts us too much if it is only for a few weeks. We can play KG at the SF for some minutes if orlando tries to go big by moving Rashard Lewis to SF. TA has been playing good when he gets the mins and I think Bill Walker may be able to step in for a few games and add a spark off the bench.

precisely. these are our bench players, and they're not good players. it's baffling to me why we didn't sign a guy like bogans or udoka for the minimum this offseason. yes, daniels is a nice player, but with his history of injury, we should have added an additional security blanket. giddens (or to a lesser degree, hudson) should have been cut. seriously, he's not even close to an NBA player -- he should be playing in china or something.
