Interesting quotes from the players about this play, from the recap of the game :

Quote
Things got testy about 3 1/2 minutes into the game when Miller basically clotheslined a driving Rondo, who gave him a bloody mouth in the playoffs. That delighted the crowd, even if it resulted in a flagrant foul.

Rondo said he expected some retribution from Miller, considering his hard foul late in Game 5 of the playoffs left him with a bloody mouth.

“I think he tried to go for my face, but he hit me in my nose a bit as well,” Rondo said.

Miller said “it’s not really payback, but everybody knows what happened.” He said it was more about a center refusing to let a guard go in for a layup, adding, “You’ve got to win that battle.”

While Pierce said Miller’s not a dirty player, Ray Allen “thought it was excessive.”

Rondo, meanwhile, said the blow “didn’t hurt” and he’s “been hit way harder.”

“I’m not going to get intimidated by it,” he said. “The next time we play, I’m going to drive whether it’s him, whether it’s Noah or anybody. It can be Shaq, I’m still going to drive. That’s what I do.”

Basically, Miller acknowledges it was payback by saying it wasn't really payback but "everybody knows what happened". Can't stand the guy, his facial expressions, and his way of playing.

Gotta love Rondo's final comment on the fact that he will drive on anybody.

To quote Nick it's, "The pussification of the NBA".  Tommy was outraged that C's let that happen to their little guy (of course Tommy gets outraged by lots of stuff).  The ramifications of retaliating on this day and age just don't make it worth the show of bravado.

It's old school NBA. I kind of like it.  Now it's our turn. ;)

I like how Rondo let his game do the talking. I have always hated Miller, so I guess this is all the better. I am all for old-school NBA brawls, but hopefully no one gets seriously hurt.

that may be the case but someone should have introduced Miller to the hardwood before the end of the game.  Tommy was right that even just 20 years ago, Miller would have gotten some payback in the same game---league punishment or not.

as tommy put it last year, "SLIMY BRAD MILLER!"  i wish the league would let the games be more physical as they were in the 80s.  would have been great to see perk put miller on his behind the next trip down!

the best part of rondo's quote, "thats what i do."

Tommy kills me.  He said if he was playing, Miller wouldn't still be walking.  Then when he got the tech, Tommy started mocking him.  Haha, great stuff.

But seriously, the stuff Miller got away with was ridiculous (3 steps while picking Pierce).  Can't say I'm surprised though.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I've got no problem with plays like that; I think the officials should give a flagrant and move on.  I just wish I had faith that if Perk did the same thing to Rose, there wouldn't be a suspension and/or ejection.

I don't have any problems in general either.  What I think is laughable is how Chicago, and their fans, made the whole series about that one play.  In fact, the foul Rondo committed on Miller was not called a flagrant at the time, nor was deemed that after lengthy review by the league afterward.  Miller was streaking down the lane for the game tying hoop and Rondo took a desperation swipe to try to prevent an easy layup.  It was all reactionary and instinctive.  Catching him across the mouth rather than the ball and wrist/forearm which is where Rondo swiped, was a product of him being 6'1" and Miller being 6'10".  He simply could not get to the height of the ball.  Miller whined as did the Bulls fans incessantly that somehow Rondo was headhunting, it was cheap, on and on and on, which was all not deemed to be the case by the league.

Therefore, there really was nothing to retaliate for in my opinion.  Miller being the 6'10" guy already standing in the lane, waiting for the guard coming at him, is a completely different situation.  He took Rondo down purposefully, and again, they called a flagrant, so no big deal or need for further retaliation.   I just find it embarrassing for Miller, the Bulls and their fans that they even felt there was anything to retaliate for in the first place.  Miller admitted as much through his quotes.

I think it's pretty crappy the way our team just lets other people unload on Rondo. Every time we play the Magic Dwight Howard (coward that he is) leans in to picks on Rondo to try and increase the pain. Either DH should end up in the 2nd row or their pg should get drilled once or twice.

I don't know what games you watch, Perkins regularly takes shots at opposing PGs whenever their team does something to Rondo.

Or even when they go at Rondo hard, he absolutely blew Deron up in the game last year after he kept shoving Rondo with his off arm.

What happened last night after Miller took out Rondo? What happened in the Orlando game after Howard flattened him?

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Perk does not let teams get away with cheapshots at Rondo. He makes sure to bring back double the pain, always. He's the absolute man.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
