  • Rondo = Good
Pierce and KG are 100% going.  KG will be voted in.  It would take a huge dropoff or (God forbid, knock on wood) and injury to prevent Pierce from going.

Rondo has every right to go...I defy anybody to name a point guard who is playing better than Rondo in the Eastern Conference.  He's not a lock (he won't get voted in by fans), but I have a feeling that the coaches in the league are aware of how good Rondo is.

KG will be a starter, in my opinion. Pierce has a good chance to be coaches vote. And if the Celtics have the best record in the league by the break, Rondo has a chance to get in. It doesn't look good for Ray though.

It's really tough to gauge.  First, the All Star game doesn't matter at all.  Still, if we as fans think that we deserve 3-4 slots, then what does that say about teams like Orlando and Cleveland?  Are they comparable teams to us because Howard and James are dramatically better than Pierce and/or KG?  Or are Pierce/KG closer to Howard and James than some think, but their supporting casts are underrated?

Based on competition by position Perk should be the easiest shoe in.  I'll give you Howard as the starter, who is better in the east at center in the 2nd slot?

Of course it will probably come down to a numbers game and Perk will get passed over, but he really is deserving on merit.

Coaches will just pick up big men disregarding if they play center or forward, but Bogut is better than Perkins and then you have Lopez and Horford who are in the same tier.

Rondo, Garnett and Pierce will be selected; I hope Rondo is the only one going.

KG starter, Pierce a lock for coaches votes, and Rondo if he keeps up playing the way he is, right now he is top 3 PG in the NBA.
Ray will jump in if someone gets hurt ala last year, Perk is a long shot.
Hey if you ask me the whole starting five should be there :)

I'll buy that.  I forget that Milwaukee is in the East sometimes.  I think when the Brewers moved to the NL in baseball I got it in my head that the Bucks switched conferences too.  Which all goes to show that the Bucks haven't been "players" in a really long time (and that my brain needs some mechanical work).
Yup

I think Perk needs a little more national media attention. If he plays really well (like 18-20 pts, 12-13 rebounds and a few blocks on Christmas Day against ORL that will certainly help his case for All-Star game.

But IMO Bogut is looking very strong for an All-Star spot.

I can see Ray getting in if one of the front-runners gets injured, just like last year.

KG should be a lock, as well as Pierce. And I see no reason why Rondo cannot make it.

This is just my take, but what is highest number of players a team has ever sent to the All-Star team? Would voters REALLY vote in our entire starting 5? I doubt it.

I'd say KG, Rondo and Pierce make it with no problems. Ray could slide in, though.

KG will be selected, probably as a starter. Pierces goes as a reserve. Ray doesn't make it this year (to my regret since I would have liked to see him have 10 all star selections in his career), Perkins is put behind Horford & cie so he doesn't make it.

And finally, Rondo, if he continues to play like he does right now until February (and I think he will), will be voted by the coaches.

statistically right now the best players on our team are:

KG
Rondo
Pierce
Perk
Ray

... in that order

That might be true but allen has been better and i believe he leads in 3 pt shooting and one of the tops made plus he reached his milstone which is a big accomplishment.

I'm just referencing how they are currently performing statistically if you consider points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and field goal percentage.

Right now Rondo statistically is the 31st best player in the league.

KG is #34
Pierce is #43
Perk is #66
Ray is #101

That's not to say Ray isn't an excellent player.  It's just saying that statistically he is averaging 15.3 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 46% shooting...

Meanwhile, Rondo is averaging 11.7 points, 9.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 53% shooting.

Simply put... Rondo is putting up the best numbers on the team.

In fact... Rondo currently putting up the best numbers of any point guard in the East (I'm not counting Dwayne Wade as a pure point guard).   Keep in mind, all the best point guards are in the West  (Nash, CP3, Deron).   Actually, Rondo's competition for "best point guard in the east" is so weak right now ... that #2 is none other than Bricks Jennings.

If things continue on this pace, it would be very very difficult for coaches not to add Rondo to the team.   That's unless they decide to just fill the East allstar bench with shooting guards and ignore the fact that Rondo is the best point in the conference.

Even if you rank just "guards" right now in the East (based purely on stats)... the rank is:

#1 - Wade
#2 - Iguodala
#3 - Rondo
#4 - Joe Johnson
#5 - Louis Williams
#6 - Bricks Jennings

Seems to me it will be hard for Rondo to miss the team is he continues playing like this.

Pierce and KG will likely both make it, because they are having solid statistical seasons and everyone is well aware they are two of the best players in the league.   I'm not sure Ray makes it this year.

I think Perk is statistically a top 10 center in the East right now, but I don't think he makes it.

It looks like Iggy is getting called a forward...

Here's the current voting for East guards:

Guards: Dwyane Wade (Mia) 672,227; Vince Carter (Orl) 292,002; Gilbert Arenas (Was) 212,526; Ray Allen (Bos) 208,276 Derrick Rose (Chi) 196,059; Allen Iverson (Phi) 136,976*; Joe Johnson (Atl) 118,964; Rajon Rondo (Bos) 113,371; Jose Calderon (Tor) 68,084; Mike Bibby (Atl) 48,935.

SO Wade and Vince will make it.   That means statistically, Rondo is the most deserving guard for the coaches to pick (if things continue this way).

Remember when the only All Stars we had were Pierce and Walker?  They were some of the best duo of the league for the longest time, but we had nobody that was even close to All Star caliber on those teams.  How great is it that we can have a legitimate discussion about all 4 of our starters being in the All Star Game!

Apologies to those that feel otherwise, but I just can't understand how Ray Allen can enter into the discussion for an All-Star berth. He's having an okay year but okay in the East, with guards the caliber of Joe Johnson, Dwayne Wade, Vince Carter, Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, Rodney Stuckey, Gilbert Arenas, Mo Williams and Andre Iguodala having better years statistically than he is, isn't going to cut it this year.

Love you Ray, really do. But you are not having an All-Star year nor do you deserve going to the game.

You bring up a good point with Stuckey.  He's on my fantasy team and he's been the biggest surprise on my team.  He has been scoring extremely well (averaging over 18ppg) and he is passing relatively well.

AS much as I love Perk - and I do, I gotta say that Brook Lopez is the 2nd best center in the east right now. After that, Bogut has a case if he can stay healthy.
