"If a guy was doing the Riverdance like that, coach would come over and say, 'Who's got the fewest amount of fouls of my big fellas?' " said ex-Celtic and TNT analyst Kevin McHale. "If you raised your hand, he would say, 'We will let him drive and then we will throw him on the ground.'

"When he is laying there we would say, 'Do you feel like dancing now?'

"And that pretty much solved the dancing problem."

Will never happen in today's NBA. The pussification of the game of basketball by David Sterns is without a doubt the worse thing he ever did as commissioner.

I think the Knicks/Heat style took it to far though. Just bad and ugly basketball when they were hacking away.

I used to love that stuff. Knicks basketball was how I grew up watching ball, since Celtics games were rarely on.

I didn't, just slow deliberate and ugly basketball. At least the current C's will move the ball a lot of offense...

I'm not talking about the constant clutching and grabbing that was Riley's invention in NY that he took to Miami. I'm talking about ridding the game of hard fouls, statement fouls, and the real touchy feely fouls that he has instituted. To get rid of the clutch and grab nineties he basically made it impossible to have any contact. He took it way to far.

Yeah, though I liked the flagrant call in tonight's game. Pushing a man in the back like that is extremely dangerous.

I can't say I miss hand checking either.

League Scrutiny got even worse with the Malice in the Palace..Thanks Artest. Another reason to have a strong dislike for the Lakers.

I can certainly see Bird, Mchale or even Chief giving Lebron a little hard foul in the paint to cure his dancing. Perk, KG or Sheed would be up for it, but they would certainly be suspended for a few games.

And can you imagine Charles Oakley?? Patrick Ewing? Those two guys wouldn't allow the dancing at all, haha.....Bill Laimbeer, Ric Mahorn....Lebron would be hurting.

McNasty and Mcfilthy, lol..even Dennis Rodman would rough folks up.

Jeff Ruland from the Bullets..another bruiser right there.

I never have or had a problem with hand checking a guy with his back to you trying to back you down because it allowed for balance and a way to counter a much bigger man running you over without a call. Taking that away just gave the defender no alternative than to start flopping hoping for and offensive because without it it's nearly impossible to stop a bigger man from backing you down.

You're allowed to hand check if a player has his back to you still Nick. You're not allowed to do it if they're facing you.

The biggest advantage of no hand checking is for quicker guards and players to use their speed to drive where they want without being shoved off balance or redirected into the help.
