Now Rondo can become a Kobe or Lebron'esque scorer?  Don't get me wrong, I love Rondo.  But let's see how great he is without 3 HoF'ers in the lineup.  CP3 was partially right on that point.  I am not knocking Rondo at all but you can not look at him in isolation.

I think Rondo is fairly paid for where's he at right now.  He certainly has some room for improvement.  Down the road, I hope he's underpaid.

There's no way I think he's underpaid, though.

No. Unless Rondo develops into a decent outside shooter, gets to 70% free throw shooting or better, and makes an effort to play defense he is probably overpaid. Those three things are HUGE flaws for a PG and detract from the rest of his skills which are really really great. If he would just get his defensive effort in check I'd say it was fair. If he gets all three then he is definitely underpaid. Right now though he isn't worth 11 million per year.

Well, he's definitely underpaid this year, so I agree with the title.  Whether he'll be underpaid next year when the extension kicks in is a big jump.  But I do think Rondo is the team MVP right now - as he goes, so goes the team.

If this is true, its kind of sad to think about my own life.  He makes about $9 million more than I do each year and he's underpaid.  (Sigh) The life of a sports star. :-\

I disagree that Rondo is our best player.  Pierce and KG are still both better, and more valuable.

Pierce and KG are better but you could easily argue that Rondo's as valuable as either of them if not more valuable.

Hahahahaha TP :D

I can actually see the irony in us "lowlifes" discussing how someone who's making millions is not getting enough :D

If it was opposite day, then yes Rondo is underpaid.

I don't know, Roy. I think we have been witnessing Rondo take over the team as its MVP, its best player, and there will be no looking back. Not just talking about tonight. This has trended for several weeks now.

I would say that he is underpaid right now, because he just signed a significant contract that rewards him for his play starting next year.

Thankfully he is starting to live up to that contract the last several games...Let's see:

Tony Parker, Brandon Jennings, Gilbert Arenas, and now Derrick Rose...all either outplayed or Rondo matched their output.

Just keep it up, young fella!

I agree with all those that have expressed a slap on the back to RR for beginning to show us that we definitely made the right move by extending him now.

Good job to DA and the owners.

I love Rondo as much as the next guy, but I'm not willing to say he's "underpaid." In fact, when his new contract kicks in next year, I think he will be extremely "fairly paid." If Rondo keeps improving steadily, you might be able to make the argument that Rondo will be "underpaid" three years from know, because he will likely be one of the best point guards in the league, if not the best.

I think Rondo is being paid, now and in the next couple of years, plenty. He's a great PG and one of my favorite players, but he honestly has got a ways to go before he can start claiming to have an argument for a bigger paycheck. Until he improves his free-throw shooting and jump-shot, and becomes a consistent outside threat, he will still be a work-in-progress, and not one of the NBA's "elite" point guards.

I think he has the talents and abilities to be just that, even more, one of the best of all time, but that's a long bridge to cross, and it will take considerable time and effort on his part. I hope he does get paid more in the future, because it will be an indication that he has developed into the player I know he's capable of becoming. I personally love this kid and the fact that he's a Celtic ... and I hope he stays a Celtic for his entire NBA career.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
overpaid everyday of the week, overrated also, yeah I'm a Celtic fan for 20 years, but he's overrated, nobody who can't step up and took a shot and win you the game at the end, don't deserve this kind of money, he gets. Let him to improve his shot and then talk for him, now many players in the league can do what he do for less money, to distribute the ball, and steal the ball, do you realise with who he is playing, PP, RA, KG, even I and you can dish 7-8 assists a game with those guys. I don't want to dissrespect the guy, he's very good, but most of our fans, think him for something so special... and he's far from that, if he's on another team, he will be a lot worse. So basically two things:

1) Rondo need to upgrade his jumpshot (you can't argue with that), the boy can't make a shot even if you point a gun to his head

2) We'll see what player is Rondo, when the Big Three retire, when he'll be the man, the capitan of the team, well that's what I want, because now he's in Big Three's shadown, everything he do is up on them, we'll see can he be the man when they left, and he has to step up and be the man

Man, it's posts like these that make me wonder if you even know what a basketball is. Seriously, a Celtic fan for 20 years? In your 20 years, how many dominant pgs have you seen play on the Celtics? Do you miss the days of Kenny Anderson?

He had some questionable games earlier in the season, but he is in the groove now where he can basically do whatever he wants. He is even shooting the outside jumper more. Rondo may not be Ray Allen from the outside, but he has special talents that very very few players possess in the game of basketball. I know he is missing a very obvious skill in shooting, but he is pretty amazing to watch and gets the job done.
