I am only going to list the principle pieces, and assume guys like Walker and Giddens can be added or subtracted to make the CBA restrictions work:

BOS Sends Rondo, R. Allen, Perkins, Scalabrine
BOS Gets C. Paul, Okafor, Posey, Sefalosha

OKC Sends Sefalosha, Ibaka, Phoenix 2010 #1
OKC Gets Perkins

NO Sends C. Paul, Okafor, Posey
NO Gets Rondo, R. Allen, Scalabrine, Ibaka, Phoenix 2010 #1

Boston gets Chris Paul. That is what this trade is about. Perkins for Okafor is pretty much a wash (I like Perk more too, but expect Okafor to improve here), and Sefalosha gives us a defensive stopper in place of Ray. Posey gives us nice depth at the three.

OKC jettisons a couple of superfluous assets - Sefalosha and Weaver are about the same, Harden will start soon enough, and they have enough picks / young guys - and lands up a legit center with a championship pedigree.

New Orleans is the tough one, and this really comes down to the relationship between Paul and ownership/management. If he is unhappy, this is probably the best deal they will get - a stud replacement, some young upside and a ton of cap relief.

I'm not sure I really understand this Poison Pill Provision.

What does Rondo count as in a trade? I think it is the average amount paid over the contract extension + the final year? So that would be $55 million + $2.1 million divided by six years which equals $9.5 million. Is that right?

So Rondo counts as $9.5 million in a trade package for the team that acquires him ... but only the $2.1 million on the Celtics side of things, the Celtics can only take back $2.1 million.

Do I have that right? Is that how the poison pill provision works?

I think that is pretty much how the BYC restriction works, but a poison pill is often related to a trade kicker i.e. if we move him, we have to pay him X additional dollars.

I was not aware of that provision in his contract.

Then you missed the most important part:

BOS Gets C. Paul

I love Chris Paul but trading 3/5ths of our starting lineup is risking too much with our chemistry.   Our team is getting into a nice rhythm right now.   I am really pleased with KG the last few games and it makes me feel much better of our chances this year with this group and don't want to mess with it unless the offer is too good to refuse.   Just wait until the trade deadline and see what's out there.   Some teams will be desperate to unload.

If this team was struggling or looking like an average playoff team, Boston would be all over such a trade.

But right now, the team looks like a title team.  Is the future of this team worth the possibility of a title now?

Even after thinking about that, the Celtics still pull the trigger.  (especially if they could get rid of the Perk for Okafor part)

Rest of the teams, no.

Exactly right.

Also, don't forget that Paul is still a BYC traded player and Sefolosha is a Poison Pill Provision player, though that doesn't really matter because they are under the cap. Usually the way to overcome such obstacles is to increase the amount of salary being traded around to ridiculous amounts and that will overcome the issue but in this case, it doesn't.

Impossible to do due to Rondo Poison Pill Provision.

It's fairly easy to adjust the trade to make it work, though.  Just throw in the expiring contracts of Armstrong, Giddens, and Livingston, and it's possible.

I maintain that before the Hornets decide to trade Paul, they'll have to commit to either selling and / or moving the franchise. Their fan base will not accept it. Would you?

I'm not convinced I'd trade Rondo for Paul straight up.  I know Paul is the greater talent, but for the Celtics?

So, I guess in a vacuum yes I would trade Rondo for Paul straight up, but the Celtics need a big-3 maximizer, not a 4th superstar, which might totally discombobulate the Celtics.

And certainly not Perk for Okafor.

I agree on Perk for Okafor.  Perk is a better fundamental defender, and fits well with this team.

I think CP3 is a significantly better player than Rondo, though, and I don't buy that he'd cause major problems on our team.  Their might be an adjustment period, but ultimately, his talent would make that trade a no-brainer.

Of course, I don't think New Orleans would have much interest in Rondo's $55 million deal.  If they're going to pay big money for a point guard, I think they'd prefer the established superstar.

I thought the important part was we break up our title contender to get him.
