Quote
CLEVELAND -- NBA commissioner David Stern said in an interview with Sports Illustrated he believes a woman could be playing in the league at some point in the next decade.

Cavaliers forward LeBron James isn't so sure. The reigning NBA MVP was asked about Stern's comments prior to the Bulls-Cavaliers game on Friday night.

"Ten years?" James asked. "That's, like, right around the corner. [In] 10 years, I'll be 34. I'll still be in the NBA. I think 10 years is pushing it, honestly."

"I love all sports," he continued. "I love watching the girls, especially in the Olympics. They're wonderful in the WNBA. They're great. It's a lot of great players. But 10 years, that's pushing it. I think that's pushing it."

Okay, so I'd like to know why women playing in the NBA has anything to do with LeBron whatsoever. Apparently he thinks it has everything to do with him, basically saying that as long as he is in the league, there could never be a woman worthy of playing.

On the other hand maybe we should cut the man some slack, seeing as he's only 24, as I was reminded by the article. [dang] - 24! I honestly forgot he was so young.

seems like there's a daily post about LeBron's arrogance, lol

It's bad enough ESPN reports everytime LeBron goes to the bathroom...

He's probably afraid of getting Posterized by one..lol. Man i'd love to see that happen.

There are some good ones out there in college right now..one lady is like 6'8" from Baylor I believe. Can't remember her name. She nearly had a triple double a week or so ago...

I hate LeBron but honestly, in this case, I can't say as I disagree with him. 40-50 years from now....maybe. Ten years from now. No way. Won't happen.

I'm not sure what he said is all that self-centered, or even all that sexist. The NBA is a very physical sport, I have my doubts as to whether a woman could play rotation minutes in the NBA.

I viewed the 10 years comment more as him trying to put Stern's comment into a more immediate frame of mind. He was trying to picture himself playing against a woman basketball player.

That's awesome, I saw this and was gonna post something about LeBron being sexist as a joke title  :D  I'm pretty sure the reason LeBron commented on it was because a reporter asked him to, I seriously doubt he'd go out of his way to bring that up.  I don't think there's anything sexist about being skeptical that a woman will make the NBA anytime soon either.

The main question is more interesting: will a woman make the NBA in the next 10 years?  I don't think it's impossible but it just seems very unlikely.  Someone like that would have to be tall by women's basketball standards but then switch to being a 1 or 2 guard in the NBA, since most of the best female players top out at 6'5" or so.  That would mean she'd be matched up against most of the quickest players in the NBA night after night.  She'd either have to have an unworldly amount of athleticism for a female or be a deadeye shooter with great offensive and defensive instincts to hang with those guys.  Not to mention adjusting to the larger men's ball (unless she played on men's teams her whole life).  Could happen, but I have a hard time picturing someone putting all that together.

TP..lol....yeah but the Youtube hits would number in the millions....can you imagine that?

On a serious note, though..I can see women in the NBA before too long. I wouldn't have a problem with it. Look at Candace Parker she is 6'5" and can handle the ball.

I gotta agree with him. Can you imagine a woman going up against Perk? He has no mercy for anyone, in fact, he may take out some pent up aggression he has been building for violet palmer.

TP, Bingo. I am always one of the first people to call out Lebron, but this time I don't see anything wrong with what he said.

BTW, the idea of a woman in the NBA within the next ten years is a laughably stupid notion.

She'd have to become a 2 guard though, that'd be completely different from her game in the WNBA. She'd also be very slow for a 2 and be at an extreme strength disadvantage against most NBA 2s.

I've always wondered if Candace Parker could carve out a spot in the NBA.  The bigger ball would certainly be an obstacle.

I think she could adjust to it, assuming her hands are big enough. At 6' 5" they should be.

As a female, I think women in the NBA is a terrible idea. Maybe back in the day, when the game was more of a finesse game. But it's so physical nowadays, can you really envision Candace Parker going up against a player like Dwight Howard?

If David Stern was so concerned about female basketball players, why isn't he more involved with the promotion of the WNBA?
