Rondo's shooting and Celtics success

We really need him to drain FT's and those short 15 footers consistantly to have a real chance to win it all again. He is too good of a player to just run up the court in crucial situations, give up the ball and get out of the way.

He has been no doubt horribly inconsistant ever since college as a shooter. Last year and year before that i really despised his shooting form even though i stayed optimistic that at least his shots will go in. ( i mean we heard he practiced shooting like 1000 shots a day or something like that)

His hard work never worked because his form was just too funky. The past few games watching clips here and there , i really like the way he is shooting now. Less arm movement and more wrist movement instead. Also he is squaring up better and shooting from the middle instead of from the right ala vince carter. He nailed a nice mid range jumper late in the game yesterday.

If he can keep this up , our chances to win it all is so much better.

How consistant was he they won the title two seasons ago?


To be a better player and make the team better, he does need to become a respectable jump shooter.

His release last night was beautiful.

I don't think its about his shooting. When Rondo is creating and attacking the rim, I believe we are unbeatable. Its all about consistency for Rondo. We get picked apart with Rondo on the bench. If I were Doc, I'd play Rondo 40mins a game.

anyone else impressed by his jumper lately? He doesn't shoot too many still but he shot one late tonite with confidence. As long as he can do that a couple of times a game and makes his free throw at over 70 percent clip that will make me happy enough. (since other parts of his game is good already)

I love his new release.  Hopefully that translates to better and better results as time goes by - he's already looking better at the stripe, although 30% isn't much of a floor to get up from.

I love his release and I love when he shoots without thinking about it. That's when he drains them. It's when he has that obvious open shot with good time left on the clock that he hesitates and thinks about a pass or a drive and everyone stops moving because they know he should be taking the shot, where he has trouble and clanks them badly.

His free throw form though looks awkward and off balance. He seems to be purposely pulling his shoulders back and slightly right on purpose as a corrective move and, while lately it has made him more successful, it just looks off.

Totally separate subject but not worth another thread, I don't want Sheed to ever shoot a three when he doesn't catch the ball cleanly.  I've keep seeing it happen over and over again.  He catches the pass to him cleanly, he sinks it.  Bad pass or he bumbles it a little bit, he misses it.

And Rondo's shooting seems to be based on just the natural flow of the game.  I think Nick nailed it on the head, its like when he thinks about it he misses it.  When its second nature in the flow of the offense and game he nails it.

And then there's always those circus shots he randomly hits (like the turnaround jumper as the game was winding down the other night.)

Rondo *is* the circus freak. Expect him to keep hitting shots like that because that's what mister bighands does best. And I love him for it.

As for his jumper; I do like his new release and yes, Nick nailed it up there - when the clock is near the 3 second mark, he has all the confidence in the world, because he knows there is no time for anyone else to take it. Whether he hits or misses those doesn't really matter, because at that point the most important thing is to take the shot.

Rondo reminds me of a smaller version of Magic Johnson. Magic in the early 80s can't shoot. He did not have a respectable outside shot but was awfully excellent in passes and fastbreaks. He eventually developed his shooting in the mid-to-late 80s. Rondo's timing seems to be patterned to that of Magic's. Of course, I am no Magic fan because he is Bird's nemesis but I can't seem to ignore the parallelism of their (Rondo and Magic) game.

i have a good feeling that this time he has found a shot.

Doesn't wind back like before and rather pushes the ball towards the basket from a 90 degree arm position.

Also unlike before when he shoots now i have a very good feeling it will go in, especially late in the game. (like tonight, like the last game and few string of games before that)

Now i can freely say he is worth 11 million dollars per year and also will make the all star team soon
