Rondo has Challenged Chris Johnson of the Titans to a footrace for 200 GRAND

Johnson is currently in the hunt for a 2,000 yard season a ran a 4.24 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Rondo, really? two hundred grand? wow thats a lot of money, I understand you just got paid but don't forget about Antoine.

The guy in this article tries to estimate Rondos 40 time by using the 3/4 court time that players are measured at and somehow comes up with 4.7. A guy in the comments does a much more thorough job.

the math by the guy who wrote this article is horrendous. the way you would approximate the 40 yard dash time using toney douglas' time of 3.03 for 23.5 yards is [distance= (initial velocity*time) + 1/2acceleration*(time^2)] the initial velocity is 0 because he starts from rest, so then the equation becomes just:
[distance = 1/2acceleration*(time^2)]
if you solve for accelaration, you get,
[acceleration = (2*distance)/(time^2)]
plug in the numbers and you get
accelaration = (2*23.5)/(3.03^2) = 5.12 yards/second^2

now if you change the distance to 40 yards and solve for the time using the same equation as before [distance = 1/2acceleration*(time^2)], you get

[40 = 1/2(5.12)*(time^2)]

if you solve for time, you get

time = [40/(1/2*5.12)]^(1/2) = 3.95 seonds

so that would be toney douglas's time for the forty yard dash, assuming he continues to accelerate at the same rate he did for the first 23.5 yards. He probably would not accelerate at that same rate, he would probably slow down a bit, and nd up with a time closer to 4.2 or 4.3.

They are using Toney Douglas because he was the fastest time last year and Rondo never took the test

I'd give Rondo a 4.3-4.4 40 time, I think it would be pretty close.

So Rondo vs. Johnson, who ya got?

Rondo is fast, but I'm not sure he's 4.24 fast.  I think CJ would take it.

FWIW, Mike and Donny mentioned during the last game that Rondo's time is 3.9...

I live right outside of Nashville and have had many friends attend Titan practice. They say Flash is the fastest Titan they've ever seen. :o   So, I'll also go with CJ.

Chris Johnson would wreck Rondo. Absolutely ruin him.

From what I've heard, that's Rondo's self-proclaimed estimated time.  If he can do a 3.9, I'd love to see it.

No player in the history of the NFL combine has cracked 4.0, so if Rondo thinks he can it would be truly remarkable.  I doubt it, though.

I have heard this story, too, and all I have heard is the term 'footrace'. If it is indeed the 40yd dash, I think Rondo may have a hard time. I think Rondo is really really fast and, who knows, maybe he would have a chance, but football players really base their lives on this 40yd thing.

However, if the race is say, 200 meters or more, then I think Rondo would wipe the floor with Johnson. Rondo's build would allow him to go full speed for a lot longer than Johnson, so any long distance run would definitely be an advantage to Rondo.

3.9 40?  C'mon.... I don't buy that one bit.

I also think that Chris Johnson would win.

Well there is a huge difference if you are running on grass/turf with cleats  than on a basketball court with sneakers. Rondo's time would be decent amount slower on grass and Johnson's would be a lot faster on the hardwood. I don't know if this was factored in already.

Also wasn't the "bet" for 2 grand not 200?

Rondo is one cocky dude. First he challenged Usain Bolt, and now Chris Johnson. Child please, CJ will make Rondo look foolish. Whats up with $200k bet? That's a lot of paper even for Antoine Walker.

Before we all start thinking Rondo is crazy, the bet is 2K. Not 200K. Big difference.

The initial tweet by Chris Johnson (ChrisJohnson28):
My bradda @lambo6 called me and said they point gaurd rondo want to race me for 2k that's easy money set it up on espn

Meanwhile, Johnson also says he is ready to undertake the challenge brought forth to him by Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, who said believes he can beat the Titans star in a footrace.
Word of that was relayed to him by a friend, Marquis Daniels, who is Rondo’s Celtic teammate.

“He called me and told me what Rondo was saying. So I went on Twitter and said, that’s easy money,” Johnson said. “That’s cool if he wants to lose $200,000. I had to go public with it. He must be stupid. It won’t be no close race.”

thats where I got 200k, I hope its only 2k

Well Rondo can afford it with his new contract at least.
