Trade idea w NJ

So worst start ever huh? Here's my trade idea:

Scalabrine, Giddens, 1st rd pick (whenever we can legally give one)
Courtney Lee, Eduardo Najera

Why for Boston: Courtney Lee is a drastic upgrade on the wing. Gives us a solid, solid defender at the 2, and Najera can do a lot of the stuff scal does. Giddens we were going to let loose after this season anyway, and a 3rd year Lee (at the start of next season) is way better than any 1st rounder we get at like pick number 27-30 in the 1st round.

Why for New Jersey:
Gives them another 4 million in cap space next summer, plus savings beyond that with Najera. They have started CDR (which he hates being called. He prefers "freshy pants") 10 out of a possible 14 games, and Courtney Lee only 6 out of a possible 10. They're 0-18, how much worse can they get? Najera has been racking up DNP-CD's and DNP-Sore because we're losing's all season, and while he's a good team guy, they can replace that. On top of that they get another late 1st to play with, whether it is to parlay into a higher pick via trade or to just use, it's an asset.

I understand that Courtney Lee is a far cry from "cap filler", but he's not exactly their go to guy this season anyway.

Rondo/House/Hudson
Allen/Lee/Daniels
Pierce/Daniels
Garnett/Wallace
Perkins/Williams

Obviously I really like this trade for us, but I don't think it's that unbalanced if you consider the motives.

I can't see the Nets giving up Courtney Lee with so little value coming back in return. They clearly value him highly and rightly so.

My guess is if there is going to be someone moved out of Jersey it's Yi Jianlian because he hasn't panned out to be quite what he projected to be at the time of the draft(yeah, I know he was drafted by someone else, just saying he's been a bit of a disappointment) and because it dumps another $4.5 million in salary for next year when the Nets aren't sure what the salary cap is going to come in at.

I think Yi is a bit under-rated ... I think he's the kind of guy who will thrive when added to the right mix, (which he hasn't been yet). I can see him really clicking with the whole ubuntu concept and growing quickly if he's not expected to be the "star" as much as being an important piece to a cohesive unit.

I don't see much value in it for Boston. Yi just won't receive enough of an opportunity on the court to develop. Yi isn't good enough to make the Celtics rotation and I worry about what happens to him when he's sitting on the bench for a full season. I don't think the C's will get anything out of it + bad for Yi's own career.

Yeah, we don't need another big, especially not one with potential who will just get sent to the D-league.

Considering they have essentially no bad contracts to move for next year, they're not moving any of their core young talent -- including Yi and Lee -- unless they get a high pick or equally interesting young player in return.

For the umpteenth time. will trade idea posters please stop throwing Scal, Giddens and TA at teams for no real salary or headache relief. They're assets in that way and that way only.

Yi=KG-every skill except his 18ft jumper.  I was once high on Yi but I doubt he will ever be more than a Vlad Rad type.  He definitely can't be counted on in playoff rotation, or even to stay on the floor for that matter.

I too doubt that Yi would be able to provide much for this team this year. But, the trade for Yi wouldn't be for this year. Danny thought and talked very highly of him around the 2008 draft and I really think he might be a good pick up to add to the team next year and beyond in place of Williams.

I just don't feel that Scal or Giddens adds much to this team and will help very little to not at all this year. So trade them to add a piece for next year and to open a roster spot in case someone gets bought out that Danny would want to add later on.

How do you figure?  He's not infusing talent to the Nets.

The move for Courtney Lee I could understand from the C's perspective, less so for the Nets.  Yi would only happen if Danny is still hung up on him but I can't imagine that's still the case after having seen his lack of production for the past 2 years.

Danny can do better than this deal for those expirings without having to toss in a 1st rounder to boot.

Dumping Yi helps the Nets get down to about $21 million in open cap space after everyone but Harris, Lopez, T.Williams, Lee, CDR, and Boone is renounced and that includes the holds for their two first round picks. Moving Yi would guarantee the Nets the ability to add one max contract free agent and almost(90-95%of max) another max level free agent contract.

Is that worth a first round pick? If you are giving them salary relief, maybe. But if that is the case have them include this year's pick, which lowers there cap another million and give them picks in 2011 and 2013. That gives the C's two first rounders this year that they could use to replace Giddens and Walker as prospects as I think both are probably gone as they haven't panned out.
