What I got out of that was his saying that he was happy to still have an opportunity to show that he can still play and display that he can play like he always did.

To me that means being the selfish, ball dominating, coach killing, arrogant, no defense playing punk who won't ever come off the bench, that he always has been.

Yeah, he cares. He cares that he finally was able to get the chance to start and play the way he has always been accustomed to playing. The way that has earned him exactly zero championships.
