Rasheed Wallace has faced a $30,000 fine for esentially calling Hedo Turkoglu a "flopper". Flopping is becoming common in the game of basketball nowadays, almost as common as it is in soccer.

Being the list-maker that I am, I feel it would be beneficial to us to create a list of known floppers in the NBA. Hopefully we will be able to notice trends, keep tallies, and then maybe we can get any information we find into the hands of the NBA heads so they realize something needs to be done.

What team has the most floppers?  Is the stereotype true that most floppers are European players? This thread will be devoted to whatever questions we want answered within this topic.

Enjoy!

My initial reaction is that I would not call Ginobili a flopper and post a picture of him where he is clearly getting pulled out of midair and it is obviously not a flop.

Second, I think it's time to start calling players like Ginobili european, because they are not.  Argentina is South America.  Let's just call them foreing players.  As for foreing players being the biggest floppers, I don't necessarily know if thats completely accurate.  Just last night Dwade flopped big time on a pick from Perk and proceeded to argue through the time out.

Perhaps foreing players might flop more on the defensive end, but American players are just as bad, if not worse, on the offensive end.  Players like Dwade, Lebron, Kobe and AI come to mind.

Another thing, people keep talking about flopping like it is something new in the game.  For as long as I have been watching the NBA flopping has been a part of the game.  That is about 15 years.  If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Lambieer known for being a flopper?

I would be upset if the Celtics didn't have guys that new how and when to flop.

Let's be honest, in the NBA, it is an important weapon.

1. Ginobili is not being pulled in that picture at all, and he is known around the league as a flopper whether he is flopping in that picture or not.

2. I never called Ginobili European, I never called Varejao European either. Many people believe that "European" players flop the most. Those pictures are independent from that statement.

3. Yes Laimbeer was a flopper, and yes it's been around for a while, but it never came as often as it does now. Also fouls are called a lot more often now whereas in the past the officials would just let the players play. Flopping wouldn't be a problem if the officials swallowed their whistles like they used to.

TP! That's some of the best editing I've ever seen in a comedic NBA video.

Let's be honest, in the NBA, it is an important weapon.

I miss leon for this, he knew how to flop on defense like a pro, he was a master of drawing charges on little to no contact. great feet to get in position and great er...selling abilities? :D

With him gone, we really only have one player who is good at getting a charge, and it's pierce.

Agreed... Powe is/was a flopper.
Pierce on the other hand, I think if the amount of legitimate fouls you take outweigh the amount of flopping fouls you take... you're not a flopper. I wouldn't call Pierce a flopper, just a smart player as far as picking up fouls.

So the list is at...

1. Anderson Varejao
2. Hedo Turkodudu
3. Manu Ginobili
4. Vlade Divac
5. Raja Bell
6. Leon Powe
7. Dwyane Wade?
8. LeBron James?
9. James Posey?
10. Bill Laimbeer?

Players with Question marks = Now that I think of it they might just fall under the Pierce category of smart gritty players... Correct me if I'm wrong on anything, and feel free to keep adding players.

Does the "Reggie Miller Someone Was Within 5 Feet of Me as I Missed a Jumper So I'll Fall Down" flop count?

I don't think I would consider Reggie a flopper. I can be overruled though...

Reggie wasn't a flopper per se, he was a "stick my off leg out as far as I can on jumpers, and if anyone comes close to touching it I'll flail around in a circle and hit the deck like I've been shot"-er.  He also chases married women  ;D.
