We're 17 games into the season, so I think it's fair to ask the question.  Ray has been shooting around 30% on 3 pointers so far this season, which is really bad for him.  He hasn't shot that badly on 3's in quite a long time.

He wasn't exactly shooting well during the playoffs in June (besides a couple blow-up games against the Bulls) but that could have been attributed to tired legs over a long season.

What's the excuse now?

Not enough quality shots from three, and the fact that he is taking almost all of his shots from midrange or in the paint (which is a good thing).

I wonder how much of it has to do with Ray not getting into a proper rhythm.  With so many bombers on this team, Ray has been taking fewer three point attempts; his attempts per game is currently the lowest it's been since 1999.

Also, as Drucci said, he's taking a lot more inside shots, and is shooting his second highest overall percentage ever.  I think he's struggling from outside a little bit adjusting to his changing role, and ultimately I predict that he'll be fine.  He won't shoot 30% for the year.

Give it time.  He will get hot.  His % will go back up.

He's getting old?
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

his thoughts are on his son, that might be keeping him from getting up as many shots between games. I think he'll be fine.

"he's getting old"...

Come on man. He's in the best shape of his career since he left The Bucks and he's going to the basket and finishing more than i've seen him since the purple days.

I'm not concerned.   He is shooting 46% overall which is above his career average and making up for the drop of 3 PT%.    He has taken 73 threes and little hot streak and his percentage will boost up.

I like the fact that he seems to be driving much more this year and making acrobatic layups.   That is a sign to me that he hasn't really slipped that much athletically.

Dear OP,

There is no "excuse". You see, when you are a "shooter", as Ray Ray no doubt doubt is, you go through ups and downs.

Currently, Ray Ray is in a bit of a funk/down. The only way to get out of a funk is to either:

1. "change things up" - which he's doing rather well if you ask me. Ray's taking the ball to the rim and pulling up for the mid-range shot which he's hitting.

2. "shoot your way out" - this is the Eddie House philosophy which I'm happy to see Ray isn't taking. Rather than forcing up more bad looks he's decided to go with option 1.

Additionally, between Pierce and Sheed there are still plenty of 3's being taken.

Agreed.  He has shown in the past that his play suffers when his family needs him.

The whole game yesterday I kept thinking, man, ray has really lost his touch, then at the end of the game I remembered his son.  Hope his son comes to a full recovery so we can get Ray in his "best shape of his life" again.   ;D
