Some truths the Celtics need to understand about referees:

1.  Referees are part of the court environment, just like the floor, the backboard and the hoop.  Yelling at refs is probably even less effective than yelling at these other parts of the court environment.  So just . . . don't.

2.  Referees, no matter how good or bad they are, will miss calls.  They'll make what they think are makeup calls.  All of this is largely beyond your control.  What is under your control is how you prepare, how you play and how hard you play -- this is where you should focus your attention.  If you don't like calls that can affect the outcome of a game, do your darnedest to never leave the outcome in jeopardy of a bad call.

3.  Good manners and sportsmanship often go unrewarded, but bad manners and poor sportsmanship will certainly be noticed . . . and "rewarded."

I am excited about the Celtics as a team and as individual players, but I do think by and large they would be better served paying more attention to their jobs and less attention to the referees.  And less time dissing the other team for that matter.

Even tough some of these T's are deserved, most of them are totally undeserved and are being called because... well, they are the Celtics. ::)

Perk and Sheed particularly have been targeted unfairly, and Doc too.

I mean, how come such a Technical hasn't been rescinded yet?!

Probably because Perkins may have said something to Crawford. We don't know.

Ray Allen is a perfect gentleman and he's gotten some stupid Ts since he's been a Celtic.

Bit of an update here. Apparently the league thinks that Perk was unfairly targeted for a technical in at least one instance as his technical levied against him by Joe Crawford for simply putting his hands in the air during the Indiana game a while back has been rescinded.

Quote
The league has rescinded a technical he received two weeks ago in Indiana. After being called for a foul, Perkins remained with his arms up to indicate he had established position. Referee Joe Crawford hit him with a tech, but Perkins appealed.

“At times it’s hard because you’re trying to stay away from the technical fouls, and they just seem to find you,” he said. “But it probably was just a misunderstanding with Joey. It wasn’t anything else past that.”

Even considering RA in particular, I'll stand by my post.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
The video doesent show what Perk told the referee. I do not believe Perk has ever accepted having committed any kind of foul...whatsoever.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

That tech called on Rasheed last night.....
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Maybe the league can rescind the fine, but they can't rescind the free throw attempt and the lost possession.

Finally it has been rescinded! Good to hear.

But the T on Sheed last night was just awful once again... the guy is getting called for T's more than Mikki is called for fouls, just because he is Rasheed Wallace. ::)

Technicals don't result in a change of possession  :P

I think Sheed and Perk get T'ed up for things that don't necessarily warrant it, but that's partly because of all the other stuff they say and do throughout the game.  I saw Perk a few games ago, after heading to the bench, say, "Nice call, (word for a bundle of sticks/gay slur)!"  at the ref.  Now I'm sure that didn't get heard or it would've been an instant T, but over the course of time that general attitude toward the refs adds up til you've got a target on your chest.  Unfortunately then it reinforces itself.

To be fair to the referees, Kendrick Perkins has never committed a foul once in his life.

Simply put... yes. Every time they call a foul against Sheed, or don't call one for him they are WAITING for him to react so they can T' him up. It's ridiculous, but it's actually helping Perkins out quite a bit.
