Hypothetical Team Building Situation

While reading the Bill Simmons book and I came across a little known rule that I thought was very interesting.

“Nowadays, we have a Catastrophe Rule : an emergency expansion draft in which every team can only protect four or five guys. Then that team gets the top pick of the next draft (plus its own pick)”

Let's say the Celtics are in a terrible plane crash,(I know this is awful but I'm bored). Who do other teams protect? Who do we pick? If it happens to another team who do we protect?

I will try to have my list of players that I think will be protected for each team up before the end of the day.

Players are picked based on skill, age, and salary. Let me know if you disagree with a pick of mine.

These would be my picks

Celtics + Magic + Heat

They would be the four players I'd select.

New York Knicks

I'd switch out Harrington for Jordan Hill.

New Jersey Nets

I'd swap out Yi for Courtney Lee.

Toronto Raptors

Chris Bosh + DeRozan + Calderon + not sure.

It would be a good thing if someone took those Bargnani + Turkoglu + Jack contracts of their hands. Nobody else on the roster really worth protecting though. I think Bargnani has positive trade value, so I guess I'll protect him. Bargnani would be my fourth choice.

Charlotte Bobcats

Wallace + Augustin + Brown + Henderson

Chicago Bulls

I wouldn't protect Ty Thomas. Salmons I suppose. It'd be nice to get Hinrich off the books. Salmons it is.

Cleveland Cavaliers

I'd swap out Mo Williams for Delonte West.

Detroit Pistons

Stuckey is the only player I'd protect there. Daye, Jerebko and Bynum will be my three others.

Milwaukee Bucks

I'd swap out Redd for Ilyasova.

Phily 76ers

I'm undecided on the final spot. I think I'll swap out Lou Williams for Dalmebert. Not the biggest fan of Lou as a starting point guard.

Washington Wizards

Jeez ... wrong day to ask this. Butler I suppose, he has good trade value. Haywood would be my second choice. There's nobody else on the roster that I want to protect. I'll go with Miller + Young.
