Here's the idea:



Boston sends Ray Allen and Brian Scalabrine
Boston receives Rip Hamilton and Andres Nocioni

Houston sends Tracy McGrady and Brian Cook
Houston receives Ray Allen and Tayshaun Prince

Detroit sends Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince
Detroit receives Tracy McGrady

Sacramento sends Andres Nocioni
Sacramento receives Brian Cook and Brian Scalabrine and first round pick(s) from somebody


Why Boston: In sending out Ray but taking on Rip Hamilton and his contract the Celtics are just about getting back the same quality of player both offensively and defensively but who is 3 years younger and they have Rip at a price they would probably want to extend Ray at for after the season is over. So they lose very little in quality at the 2 guard but gain the big SF who can give you points, energy, some defense and can be used to guard athletic 4's. This also locks in the payroll and team for at least therest of this year and next.

Why Detroit: The Pistons are currently making do without Hamilton and Prince and are committed to Gordon at the SG position. Rip and his salary have to go. A huge expiring contract that rids the Pistons of $20 million plus next year and more thereafter fits in perfect as does McGrady at the 3 if he can come back and be productive for the rest of this year.

Why Houston: They have to get McGrady out of town and could use a veteran at the SG spot. In Ray they get a great fit and excellent leadership type veteran with championship experience while maintaining most of their financial flexibility because Ray's $19 million comes off the books after this year. Taking on a very injured Prince and his salary next year might be what they have to swallow to keep the financial flexibility while still trying to win this year.

Sacramento: They are the catalyst that allows all the other teams to get what they want. So what they get is to move a contract while getting expiring contracts to lower payroll this year and next while opening up the SF position for Omar Casspri and maybe a move of Kevin Martin to that position when he returns in a couple months. Al;so, the first rounder(s) can't hurt.

I don't know if I'd care to have the length of Hamilton's extension just to get Nocioni.  I'd rather keep Ray and hopefully get him back at a cheaper price.  If we are getting rid of Ray I feel like it really has to be worth it.  This just doesn't seem like it's that worth it to me.

Honestly, I would rather send Ray for Rip and Prince.  I can't imagine McGrady really has more value than Ray at this point.  And Prince has both a better contract, and is arguably a better player than Nocioni.

Oh, I think Ray for Rip/Prince is a downright steal. Even though Rip has a longer contract, it is for reasonable money for his production, and he would be able to slide right in to Rays spot in the rotation.  And Prince is a very valuable player who is still relatively young, and has a very tradable contract next season, if they felt so inclined.

Detroit gets royally shafted in this proposed trade. Won't happen.

I don't think Joe Dumars is ready to sacrifice Tay + Rip solely for cap space. I believe he feels his team is at the opening stages of their development, and that if his acquisitions develop the way he hopes, that he'll be able to put another contender out there.

I think he's delusional and should drop Tay/Rip's contracts right away ... but I don't think he has any interest in that possibility at this point in time. Maybe by the end of season, at the earliest, he'll come around.

As for the trade -- Great trade for Detroit. Great trade for Sacramento. Bad trade for Houston. Solid trade for Boston. I think I'd prefer it without Nocioni.

I know this might not be popular but I think Ray Allen should not be traded at all. He only has this season left and can definitely do a lot more than what people think. I concede that his D has fallen off and everything else but he's developed a good post game and no longer lets his off-shooting nights stop him from getting on the scoreboard (like in the previous playoffs).

As far as Nocioni is concerned, people only remember him from those Chicago days where he was dunking and playing v aggressively. I still do not think that he is mobile enough to guard perimeter players (mind you Ray isn't either). I would go for a player who is not thirty yet.

On the same tangent, Rip is past 30 and he might not even age as well as Ray Allen.

To conclude this I really think that none of the celtics starters should be traded. I would however part with Scal, Tony or JR.
