It was on the news last night.  There is a lot of friction between the two.

Gilbert said the following:  "There are 15 guys on this team.  14 of them are on the same page."

They a struggling.  They might need a little shake up.

Ray

for

Butler
Crittenton
James.

DC gets Ray as another star shooter to spread the floor.

Celtics get a younger fringe all-star to replace Ray.

Quote
[Over the weekend Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood blamed egos and hidden agendas as the reason for the Washington Wizards 3-9 record. Well, it turns out Arenas was talking about Caron Butler. After hearing about Arenas' feelings Monday, Butler called and the two apparently worked out their differences.

"Most of us feel we're confident in each other on the floor and there are a few that don't," Arenas told The Washington Post. "I have no idea. But for the most part, we all get along. There are, what, 15 players on the team? Fourteen do."

"I really don't have a problem with anybody on the team. When we're together behind closed doors, we're all laughing and joking," Butler said. "I try to be professional on and off court and do the right thing. And the right thing is to continue to chip away at it, play hard and continue to try to get better. That's all you can do right now. We're all struggling. We're losing together. It's not Caron lost tonight; or Antawn lost this night; or Gilbert lost this night. It's the Washington Wizards. Collectively, we got to find a way to win games."

"I told him to just shoot. 'I don't care if you take 22 shots and only make six of them. Shoot and get comfortable,' " Arenas told The Washington Times. "I'm the only player that needs to sacrifice. For us to be successful, I told Caron, 'I need you to be Caron.' I need Antawn Jamison to average 20 [points] and 10 [rebounds], I need Caron to do his 20 [points], eight [rebounds] and four [assists]. I need Mike Miller, Randy Foye, Nick Young, Andray Blatche to shoot every time I get them the ball. Me? It's a puzzle, and I'll fill in the gaps. I'll sacrifice [the three-time All-Star] that I was, and I'll just be the gap filler. Me and [Haywood]."

I like Butler, but this is a tough one.  Hmm.  I really can't decide...  This is a nice trade proposal and it would probably help both teams.  Seems pretty equal, and I could definitely see the Wiz biting.

Reading those quotes just reinforces my opinion of Arenas.  He has so much Iverson in him it's ridiculous.  "I need"... So far Gilbert has shown a big mouth, big talent, big ego, big shot attempts, and the ability to help his teams lose games.  His teams look better when he's not playing.  The Wizard are a very talented team, but Arenas comes back and they start losing.  He's got to be one of the most overrated players in the league.

While I like the concept, I don't like the personnel. Why not go for broke and sell them on an expiring package to go after a free agent next year.

Boston sends Ray, Baby, Tony and Scal

Washington sends Jamison, Butler and Foye

Is this trade unable to happen until Dec 15th? Yes, but that is just 3 weeks away.

Is this trade heavily favored in talent coming Boston's way? Yes, but it also provides Washington with the chance of possibly signing 2 big name free agents next off season to add to Arenas if the renounce everyone or 1 big name free agent while resigning Haywood or Allen.

Is Boston taking a chance adding a ton of salary beyond this year? Yes but these are the rosters for this year and next:

2009-10
Rondo/House/Hudson
Foye/Daniels/Giddens
Pierce/Butler/Walker
KG/Jamison/Williams
Perk/Sheed             salary = same as it is now about $84 million

2010-11
Rondo/Hudson
Foye/
Pierce/Butler
KG/Jamison
Perk/Sheed            salary = $90 million with the MLE and vet mins available or less if Pierce opts out and renegotiates at lower than $22 milliom per.

Washington would never do this.  They have already rebuilt and have a very nice roster.  This would mean giving away 3 major pieces.  It seems to me that what would help them the most would be subtracting Arenas.  This team could be great with a real point guard.

Butler would be a nice replacement for Ray.  C's would have to move 2 more bodies to make room for Crittenden and James.  Not sure I like either of them over who we already have.

Can't see Wizards making this deal.

The trade suggested by Nick

Boston sends Ray, Baby, Tony and Scal

Washington sends Jamison, Butler and Foye

2009-10
Rondo/House/Hudson
Foye/Daniels/Giddens
Pierce/Butler/Walker
KG/Jamison/Williams
Perk/Sheed

2010-11
Rondo/Hudson
Foye/
Pierce/Butler
KG/Jamison
Perk/Sheed

This is even more lopsided for the C's.  I love the end result but very unrealistic Wizards would make that deal.  Also, if they actually pulled off this steal, no way Foye starts on that team.  Either Butler starts at SG or PP moves to that spot and Jamison becomes the SF.  The budget would be busted and any likelihood of keeping Daniels or Williams after this year would be minimal unfortunately although I'd rather have Daniels than Foye going forward.

The Wiz do not want to blow up and rebuild.

They want to win now.

This trade allows them to continue with the illusion that they can win.

I figure the Celtics can waive JR and either Walker or Hudson.

I think they do get a backup PG that works next to House (allowing Daniels a little more freedom on offense)

And James adds 6 million in expirering trade bait.

I'd do this deal, but I don't think the Wizards would do it.

This is the only sort of deal that really would entice the C's to move Ray, but I think it'd have to be a trade deadline move.

I think if the rift and losing continues, they would go for a deal like this.

A one year trial to see if Ray makes them better.

True I keep forgetting how badly they've been playing this season. I'm way too tunnel visioned on the C's current struggles. (and the Huskers/Bears)

When football season is done I'll be able to watch a few more random NBA games.

I wonder what other offers they'd have for Butler though...

If they end up trading Butler, eventually they will see that it's not Butler who is holding them back, it's Gilbert.

I imagine they will get some good offers.

But few will offer both the chance to be good this season and to clear money next.

Foye starting and Butler coming off the bench? What has Foye done to deserve that?

DC is not ready to throw in the towel on this team.  They think they can win.

I can see them doing a major tweek, but not a complete overhaul.
