Like a lot of you, I have been looking at trades involving Ray, and this is one that I thought was at least interesting.  I am not sure if any of these teams would actually do it, but on some levels, it does make sense for everyone:

How about this 3 team trade?

Boston gets:

Kevin Martin
Monta Ellis
Spencer Hawes

Sacramento gets:

Ray Allen
Rajon Rondo
Ronny Turiaf

Golden State gets:

Kenny Thomas
Andres Nocioni
Boston First Round pick

Boston gets a younger, and cheaper SG, who is a better player than Ray right now, and is a guy you could build around.  They also get a Center prospect, who the Kings seem to be somewhat luke-warm on, and of course Ellis, who is similar to Rondo in a lot of ways, but is much more of a pure scorer, than passing PG.

Obviously this is a big risk, but it gives them a couple extra pieces to eventually build around, while also keeping them strong for this season.

For Golden State, they get rid of a guy who doesn't want to be there, save some cash next season (not to mention in the longrun), and get a pick for their trouble.

And Sacramento gets a young PG to put next to Evans to build around, while opening up the spot to slide Evans over to SG.  And of course, they also save cash.  Having Ray around might also help with the development of their young guys as well.

I don't see the Kings just giving up Spencer Hawes like that. He has the tools to be a top 10 center in the league within 2-3 years.

This trade heavily favors Boston.

You're probably right.  But I think ultimately, this is the type of deal it is going to take to get the C's to the table with Ray.

I think that depends on where we are come mid-January. The C's probably won't trade Allen this season.

Well, if they even have a chance to be as good or better this year, and it does give them a better core for the future, then I think it is a deal the C's need to look at.

Honestly, I am not sold on this scenario myself, even though I came up with it.  Just throwing another idea out there.

Maybe ...

Ties up more money though. Is that core really a title contender in the future? Ellis + Martin + maybe Perk?

It might be one of those situations where you trap yourself into a 40 win team and do not create an opportunity to build a legitimate contender.

Not sure how much it opens things up for the future.

I'm not a fan of Monta Ellis. Needs too much of the ball and doesn't do enough for others.

A lot of scorers on that perimeter ... not much passing. Pierce would be the only above average passer, for his position, on the perimeter and he'd be seeing less of the ball if he had to play alongside Martin and Ellis.

Having the PG combo of Ellis and House kills this idea for me.

To many offensive threats out there to have a small SG playing PG.

Don't go forgetting Spencer Hawes on me  ;)

That's just way too much talent for Boston to turn down.  It would probably set us back this year, but sets us up better in the long term (even if Ellis is overpaid).

Couple of things:

1.) Does this work even with Rondo's poison pill provision currently intact until the end of the season?

2.) While I think Boston would jump at this trade and Golden State might consider it, I don't see any reason for Sacramento to do this. Yeah they want to shed salary but Hawes is not one of those salaries they want to shed. If Rondo goes to Sacramento it will be Beno Udrih the Kings will want to ship out, not Hawes. I can't see the Kings wanting to have $18 million of their cap invested in two PGs that can't shoot in Rondo and Udrih. That makes no sense.

I can see two teams that aren't touching this deal, neither is Boston.
