I find it very funny how many people second guess this Celtics team and organization only 13 games into this season. We have people complaining about, Rondo, Ray, Sheed, and House at the moment and at times KG and Pierce (for reasons I literally don't understand). At the moment I would just like to break down these guys and find out what exactly people are upset about, and if this is how they have always felt or if it something that has occurred over these past 13 games.
Rondo- I find it funny that people are complaining about Rondo because it seems that many are upset that we just ended up spending a lot of money on him. I don't understand what people thought was really going to happen here. Rondo played GREAT for 1 playoff series for us and other than that he has been a pretty good to good point guard. He does some things exceptionally well while he does other things exceptionally bad. I don't understand what people thought they were going to get out of Rondo this year. It's ok to have high hopes for the guy but when those high hopes pan out to realistic hopes can you really blame the guy? Most people seem to think that Rondo's job isn't necessarily to score but to distribute and defend. Has he not been doing this better than most PG's in the league right now? Even if he is gambling a bit on defense he is still probably a top 3 PG defense wise. Who would you pick over him? I did not think that the Rondo signing was good because I didn't think we had anything to lose by waiting until the season was over. Maybe Rondo would have sulked a bit at the beginning but that wouldn't have lasted all season. It seemed that most people on the board however were in favor of locking him up right away and I still don't see any wrong in that. What I do see wrong is that people are all on his back because he he signed an offer, from the Celtics, a very generous offer, and they expect him to put up Chris Paul Deron Williams numbers. Thats not going to happen
Ray Allen- If there is anyone on this team that "fits" perfectly, to me it is Ray Allen. He will always be a very scary threat from outside even if he misses 50 shots in a row. People say this all the time, but when he is not shooting well trade scenarios are brought up, his ankles are brought up, his age everything. Once he starts shooting well again it will be the same old story: "shooters keep shooting blah blah blah".
Eddie House- Set the record last year for 3 point percentage in the Celtics history. A lot of great players have played for the green and white and eddie tops the record books in this category. Were people expecting him to shoot just as good? I don't even know what he is shooting now, but it's the same thing with Ray as it is with Eddie "shooters keep shooting". I %100 percent don't expect Eddie to duplicate what he did last year and thats ok. He set a record last year and it would be fantastic for him to duplicate it or even get close but it's probably not realistic. If you want Eddie to stop shooting 3's than maybe he should be sitting on the bench because realistically that is why he is in the NBA.
Sheed- It seemed that there was a lot more interest or equal interest in getting Mcdyess (sorry sp.) over Sheed during the offseason. I was definitely on the Sheed side of the argument and still am. Again what I don't understand with people complaining about Sheed is what were they expecting? I think there were articles written on this site saying that you will be yelling at him one time during the game and praising him another. Isn't that what we are doing? Did people think that we thought everything he did was going to be great aor that he was going to change his playing ways? I didn't. I thought that I was going to have a love/hate relationship with him which I do. He will shoot errant 3 pointers that will sometimes win us a game or bring us back into a game, or they will end up losing us the game. He doesn't play inside very much and he plays good D. IS that not what he is doing? Ok so he doesn't play 30 35 min a night so when he shoots bad it looks worse because he only gets a few looks a game. What were people expecting? 15 points 10 rebounds a game? Only 2 three pointers? Pass up open looks?
I just went on a huge rant there and can't proof read anything that I wrote right now or change anything at this point. I basically just don't like how in hindsight people think that we shouldn't have signed Rondo now, shouldn't have signed Sheed, and Ray and House are suddenly not good. We have nothing to really be excited about right now but it is so early in the season. Other teams are having problems too. Maybe the Hawks are the only team right now that can be ecstatic about their play. Other than that with our team, no matter how bad they play early in the season I think is the most dangerous team in the NBA. We started last season what 27-2 (is that right?) and how far did that get us? It's early in the season we are keeping our guys minutes down, unlike last year, lets just win the marathon and not worry about this very short sprint right now..
