Count me in agreement with GreenFaith, he'll come back in great shape. BBD has a lot to prove not only to his teammates but to himself and other GM's around the league who wouldnt offer him a contract. I think this team misses him more then people would like to admit. He adds a certain dimension that no other player on the squad brings.
do tell. What do you think he adds to our current big man rotation that isn't being provided?
Because other than his 15 ft jumper, which was a C+ at best, Sheldon is outplaying him in those minutes. I want a solid defender and rebounder in those minutes, and sheldon is providing that quite nicely.
Not saying that davis won't get minutes or won't be useful player once he's back, but i'd like clarification on what we dimension we are "missing" with him not in the rotation that "only he" provides.
Well, here's my attempt at analyzing what Glen Davis will bring to us:
1. Another Big to scrap down low, plus he has a decent jumper from outside. No he's not the greatest post threat we have but he is DEFINITELY a scrappy player.
2. Glen Davis won a playoff game for us last year against ORL.
3. Glen Davis will come back fired up with a lot to prove. That fire he will bring will add to helping the Celtics start off December in a good light.
Plus, Doc will be able to use platoon both him and Shelden, to exploit our opponents' weaknesses, just like he did with Powe and Glen back in the day.
1. he doesn't provide us "another" big to scrap down low for two reasons. one, he's not a good rebounder. This has been and will continue to be a knock on him.
two, once he's back that gives us 5 bigs. so he won't be adding to the big man rotation, he's either sitting or taking someone's minutes. right now, with how sheldon is playing, i'd prefer to have his rebounding and toughness out there over baby's better interior scoring.
And, this is not a dimension "only he can bring"
2. what does that have to do with the price of tea in china?
It was a great shot, but it was last year. you said that he was going to provide dimensions that 'no other player on this team can provide". pretty sure dispite that shot he's no where near the top of the list for players taking the last shot. you go paul, ray, KG for that and move on down the line. I don't hit glen till around 6 or 7.
3. who are you sitting to give him these minutes so he can prove this too us? sheldon's? sheed's? because right now i don't think glen davis has a case for consistent minutes for this team. mabey he'll work back into them, but that's a big if.
and, once again, "intensity" or "proving himself" is not a dimension only he brings. I'll take any of our starters intensity and drive over glen davis.
