Joe Johnson wrapped it up nicely after the game for Greg Dickerson, "We wanted it more."

I like this lose. It teaches the concept of rebounding. I don't know if you guys know, We got outrebounded 3 straight games. Its unacceptable for a championship contender.

I've said this numerous times the past 2 years----if Rondo is AGGRESSIVE, we win BIG---if he walks the ball up the court--it's a close game or we lose----simple as that.

When he dribbles the air out of the ball like tonight----it lets the opposing defense set up, and we are left with terrible shots with the shot clock expiring...When he RUNS---the defense scrambles, and we have multiple EASY shots all game....BLAME this on RONDO or DOC...I dunno.

I must say I was pretty vocal in my support of Rondo when he signed that big contract, but he has got to play better Defensively, at least. Bibby (and most other PGs) should not be able to do what they do against him.

Guy is blessed with some physical talent..long arms, quickness, hops....hopefully he'll start using these gifts soonest.

And he is a smart player as well...and seasoned.

I don't want to throw him under the bus yet, though...it's only one game.

I didn't physically see the game, but I guess the refs played a part in this too?

For long stretches in this game the offense was Pierce-centric in the half court, almost by design. Rondo didn't take it to Bibby but for lengthy periods in this game the ball was always in Pierce's hands creating the offense. Why Rondo would have been turned loose on Bibby is beyond me but it appeared like the ball was taken out of his hands for a portion of the game.

Boxing out and defensive intensity was awful as was the one on one defense on Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson. Guards were getting beat and to the open area all night.

Agreed.
I´m not 100% sure, but I think it has to do with the fact that we simply have too many players who are used to more shots.

The "Pierce-centric" offense looked like a desperate attempt to get Pierce going, maybe because that was the matchup we wanted to capitalize on. However, it seems that it affected the rythm of everyone else. The 1-of-14 from behind the line could be seen as evidence for this.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The refs definitely didn't help, but that is never the singular reason why a team loses...

I know everyone wants to attack Rondo, but the two main reasons they lost tonight was their lack of effort on the defensive boards and their three point shooting. If they were even average in either of these categories, Rondo's game would have looked just fine.

Seriously, there was a lack of effort and a lack of execution tonight. I know Rondo hasn't been spectacular lately, but this one was hardly his 'fault'.

Yes, but the games in which Rondo ATTACKS, are usually Blow Outs-!!

How long until other teams adopt a "Hack-a-Rondo" strategy at the end of games?  He's been pretty terrible from the stripe.
Not pretty terrible, but god-awful. He's now missed 6 in a row...

2) Terrible rebounding on the defensive boards.  The Hawks had nearly as many offensive boards as we did defensive rebounds.  Atlanta was +18 on second chance points.
We were outrebounded solidly on Wednesday as well, and Garnett had 4 boards. It kind of slipped through the cracks because we won, but rebounding is clearly an issue.

Can you say defend the paint, and cover the weakside?

So if this is case, why didn't Rondo attack more? he could have blown by Bibby easily? Or was this a coaching thing?

Correction. He made his first three free throws and has now missed 7 straight.

I say it's a coaching thing when he walks it up.. He does it 90% of the time and people think I'm stupid when I say Doc tells him to walk it up and hand it off. That's Doc's offensive system.

It drives me insane when that happens.
