Only way we trade Perk is if we are totally rebuilding and it would have to be after Perk's next contract when he will be either 28 or 29, and we'll trade him for a project younger big man.

I think this is a stretch.  I think there is a very good chance they look to trade Perk this summer, if they cannot come to terms on a reasonable extension.

However, it will not be for a project big man, and a mediocre wing prospect.
I can't fathom what you could be basing this opinion on.  Perk will get a contract similar to Rondo's.  He's more than earned it.  He's improved in some manner each year in the league and he still hasn't hit his prime yet.

One other thing, he reached agreement on a very reasonable contract during his prior negotiations.  With that also in mind, what leads you to conclude that he will be difficult to sign?

Locking up him and Rondo up contractually secures the two hardest positions to fill with quality when the big 3 have retired or moved on.

You'd have to get an absolutely one-sided offer in favor of the C's or he has to be severely injured to consider moving him.

I base it partly on the rumor that they actually shopped him for a draft pick last summer.

Partly on the fact that he is a significant injury concern with his shoulder.

Partly on the fact that he is an offensive liability to the point that they strategically looked for a bench player who could take his spot down the stretch of games.

And mostly on the fact that 8 out of every 10 Centers (OK, I made up the actual number, but it is not that far off...it may even be generous) signed for more than $6-7 million per year turn into albatross contracts that their team wants to trade away within a couple years...and Perk seems perfectly suited to join that group, once he is making the kind of money where he is expected to be more than just a defensive anchor.

Perkins is a great defensive player.  He is absolutely perfect for this team.  He is a steal at 4+ million per year.

However, put him on a team where he is making $10+ million per year, and where he is not surrounded by 3 sure hall of famers to take on the scoring burden, and suddenly, he doesn't look nearly as good.

So unless he is willing to take less than market value, and resign with the C's next summer for something in the neighborhood of 4 years/$30 million, then expect there to be a ton of trade rumors surrounding him, and expect him NOT to be a Celtic beyond 2011, either by trade, or by them simply letting him walk.

Well, has long as we agree that Perkins for Thabeet isn't the answer, I'm willing to accept a trade that means letting go of Perkins for the right players. Thabeet doesn't fit that description AT ALL, and greenhead constructed, IMO, a poor argument for ever pulling the trigger on such a trade.

That all said, keep in mind that you only said it was a rumor, something similar to Rondo, and Doc + Danny have already denied wanting to shop Rondo, and if asked about Perkins, I wouldn't be surprised if they repeated themselves, "We weren't shopping him".

Like always, I'm more than ready to be proved wrong.  :)

This is another one of those threads that amazes me when I see that it is still alive (see The Rapist and His Dream Shake thread).   ::)

I can't believe this thread is still in the top 10, this is one of the worst trade ideas I've seen on here.

He fits in this team nicely. There is no argument there. But will Perk bring us to the next level where he can be fearsome like Moses Malone did for the Sixers in early 80s and Mark West did for the Suns under Fitzsimmons when he was swatting shot after shot of the dominant Lakers (the likes of Kareem, Worthy, AC Green and even Magic - all standing above 6'8") in the mid to late 80s. Both players by the way are 6'10" centers.

The only best thing we can put Perk into - and this is the most we can utilize Perk - is relegate him as our power forward. But that would mean we will be weak in the center position because KG will not be comfortable playing that role on a regular basis.

And even if Thabeet is going to be good, who cares?  He isn't good this year, which is all that matters.  And Carroll couldn't crack the playoff rotation here, so the fact that he's better than Giddens is meaningless.  He can't help if he can't get off the bench.

No, he is not Moses Malone.  But Thabeet will never be Shaq...or Dikembe.  And right now, he isn't even Diop.

One thing you need to realize is that height is not everything.  Even though Perk is only about 6'10", his long arms allow him to play signifcantly taller than that.

So if you want to trade Perk because he is not good offensively, or his contract is coming up, fine, but if you want to trade him because you think he is an inch or two too short, then you have become a slave to stats, and need to step back a little bit.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
It's just crazy to me that I'm hearing that:

1) Perk isn't a difference maker on defense;

2) He doesn't block enough shots;

3) He doesn't have an intimidating presence; and

4) He can't hold his own against the Lakers.

I'd expect that from a Lakers fan, or somebody who only follows the game occasionally.  I would not, however, expect that from a dedicated Celtics fan.  It just surprises me that fans can watch the same games and come to such polar opposite conclusions.

What do you mean "the only best thing we can put Perk into"?

Kendrick Perkins is one of the best defensive Centers in the NBA, and his post game has improved vastly over past year. Not to mention that every year he's consistently added to his PPM and MPG, all the while dropping the amount of fouls he takes.

I can't help but feel like, you think a player MUST be 7+ feet tall to be the Center. Which is crazy.

As of right now Perk is averaging 2.4 BPG, look for yourself:

PS. in case you were confused Kendrick Perkins is number 43. and he looks like this:

I am no Lakers fan. I am a Lakers (players and the entire organization) hater way back in the 80s. Actually a Lakers-hater for life. I've watched the games of the Celts since the time of Bird to present.

Simply put, I am matured basketball fan. Smarter if you may. Gone are the days where you really die for every Celtics players whom you adore to the hilt and to a fault.

I pose this question, which among our players will create a mismatch against them? Rondo will be faster against Fisher but the latter will knock down important shots. Perk will have a problem neutralizing a powerful and now a more skillful and taller Bynum. KG and Pau will cancel each other out like Odom and PP will cancel each other out. Kobe will outclass Ray big time - that is the reason why we need Sheed or even KG guarding him in crunch time. Not to mention they have Artest to stop PP. They have two bigs who can score better than ours and defend equally as our bigs.

if memphis calls with this offer....danny will hang up the phone laughing his butt off.  if danny actually pulled the trigger on the offer, danny would be immediately unemployed
