On my middle school basketball team, one of the kids I played with didn't think he wanted to play basketball next year in high school, he wanted to focus strictly on football. That kid got benched for the entire season. Shame, he was actually pretty good, too.
The point I'm trying to make is that it's hard to respect someone, no matter how good they are (And Glen's not really what I would call an essential player) wants to do something different, because they're lacking love for the game.
You'd never, ever see Paul Pierce or KG or even Rondo talk about wanting to play in the NFL or MLB now. Because they dedicated their lives and careers to basketball. They want to win and be the best to ever play on the hardwood. Glen's obviously lacking this passion.
I honestly hate Davis' attitude and mindset. People complain about Rondo being bigheaded, but at least he takes basketball seriously, Glen Davis is nothing more than a walking joke.

Jordan left the NBA after his father was killed, he has always promised his dad he would be play baseball. When his dad was murdered, he played in his honor. Completely different circumstances. Davis wants to play in the NFL to feed his own ego, while Jordan left to make good on a promise.
Either way, Glen Davis is NOT Michael Jordan. It's nearly impossible to question MJ's heart, he lived and breathed basketball. He was all business 24/7. Glen Davis isn't that type of person. Like I said, he's a walking joke, and he seems to take pride in being the class clown.
BBD wants to play in the NFL someday to feed his own ego? He said it was a dream of his; this is exactly what I'm talking about with people like you. Even if you just want him to think about now, fine, but putting words in his mouth like that is exactly what I mean by overreacting. I feel like you're one of those people who was always down on BBD so you see this article as an excuse to rant about him.
If he did leave, it WOULD be to feed his ego, and just don't understand why he needs to talk about this now. He's too worried about making all-star teams and cashing in to think about the team and what he has in front of him right now. If he truely loved this team, or was maybe even a bit mature he would have diverted attention to the team.
Despite his stupid moniker, he's a grown adult. He should have learned a few lessons in sportsman ship and life at this point, and yet he's flapping his gums about what he wants to do once he achieves all these ridiculous goals in the NBA. News flash, HE ISN'T THAT GOOD. Maybe he would be better off in the NFL, I don't know, I don't care. I'd like to see him smarten up, but it just doesn't seem to be his personality.
In a nutshell, Glen needs to open his eyes, he's blessed to be in the NBA and asking for anything more is just him being drunk off his own ego's and the coulda been, shoulda beens of yesterday.
Sportsmanship? What the heck did you see in his quotes that said he's not a true sportsman? Or are you trying to use the quotes to add onto what you already believed about BBD in the first place?
And what do you mean "ridiculous goals in the NBA"? Becoming an all-star? I don't know if I'd bet money on it, but to call it a ridiculous is way too much. He definitely has a chance if he improves his game, or really does have a 3-point shot, for example. Oh yeah, not to mention lose a bit more weight, that same weight that he could use for the NFL if he really wants to play in that someday...but that doesn't matter right?
And don't try to twist that into wanting to be an all-star as opposed to thinking about "Ubuntu" when he talked about KG and Rasheed being ahead of him. He was being honest, and besides, he said that before. Remember?
I'm no apologist for BBD, especially when he benched himself by breaking his own thumb on his friend's face. But please, the way you've taken BBD's quotes out of context is astounding.
Even if I am misreading the words, that doesn't make Glen any more mature for talking about it. For crying out loud, the only reason he's even in Boston now is because no team was stupid enough to overpay for him. Everyone here knowns he would have bolted if someone offered at least the MLE, Danny wouldn't have matched. Don't blame him.
Is it really that hard to see through the facade? Glen's a Memememememe type of guy. Crying for a bloated contract, getting into drunken fights with friends cause he couldn't get laid when he wanted, now talking about wanting to choose a different career path. He sounds like a kid here, "Oh I wanna be a firefighter!" then a week later "Oh, I wanna be an astronaught."
All extremely immature from a pro, yea there have been a lot worse things athletes have done but that doesn't exclude Davis from criticism. That's my problem with Glen "Big Baby" Davis, he seems to give that nickname it's own persona, and lives through it. It's all about fun with him.
That's great, though. I'm glad he likes to have fun and has goals.. He just needs to learn when to turn off the Baby persona, is all I'm saying. Talking about this when we're trying to make a run for something special just isn't right.
So don't get it twisted, I don't hate Glen Davis.. I hate Big Baby. I do root for him, he's a Celtic. He just has his vision distorted. He probably isn't going to be an all-star, and certainly not a hall of famer. Even if he does develop a three point shot, then he's just an Antoine clone that doesn't rebound nearly as well. If he does decide to go to the NFL, he better make it sooner than later, because he isn't going to achieve his goals of superstardom in the NBA.
