I'm gonna have to agree with what Chris said. Even if you want to argue that some reporters are trying to create a distraction by asking BBD personal questions like this, which would be very difficult to prove in the first place, who exactly is being distracted by this but a few fans who want to see him back in the lineup?

That's fine if you just want to see him on the court, cause who doesn't? But don't get it twisted; BBD now doesn't take THIS sport seriously, as someone here claimed? He lost weight this off-season that he could've used in the NFL! OH wait, you're gonna tell me BBD thought that was a mistake, right? Please.

For all we know, he's just as candid as Doc, and that's fine. It's good to see he has a personality.

It's just dissapointing. No wonder he was low balled on contracts. The Celtics wants a player to be all-celtics, all the time. Is that too much to ask? Maybe. But if you aren't, there's a reason for how you are treated.

I don't like him constantly answering questions about himself. The only words I want to hear from this guy are "championship", "we", "the other guys", "winning", "I'll do whatever it takes to help the team". Especially when he's not playing because of a stupid immature incident. I've had enough of the Celtic version of Papelbon.

Well don't listen and don't read his comments.  Honestly, people need to stop demanding things of these players.  He can answers questions if he wants. ::)

So fans should stop demanding that players put the team first and not create a distraction? This isn't an isolated incident. I'm tired of his act and honestly, other posters should stop demanding things of other posters.  ;)

Lets be 100% clear here, Davis talking to the media about pointless stuff like this is not a distraction to the team.  It might distract some fans, but I hardly think anyone on the team care about it for anything more than something to joke around and make fun of Baby about.

I agree totally - the broken hand and suspension/non-suspension issue was probably a bit of a team distraction, though obviously it hasn't hurt us.  This is just something silly he'll get made fun of for if his teammates even hear about it.

But I also agree with Jsaad generally - I was a huge Baby fan his first two years, because of his personality, his hustle, and his tendency to step up in big games.  I never took a side on the Baby/Powe debates because both contributed positively in different ways, and it's not like I had any say in who played anyway.  I was happy we resigned Baby, and looking forward to seeing him continue his development.

Since the end of last year though, I've seen a lot of small things that seem to indicate he's more focused on himself than the team.  Something like this is pretty trivial by itself, and reporters (and fans) absolutely take things out of context and make mountains out of molehills.  But coupled with various other comments and the injury issue, having a semi-key guy actively daydreaming about playing another sport, and not in a "It'd be neat to play in the NFL someday" way but a "Yes, I'm definitely going to the NFL as soon as I reach my goals here" way, makes me think his head is not in the right place right now.

I honestly hope he proves me wrong, or that like Rondo his production will show no relationship to his state of mind, but I'm really starting to sour on the guy.

I think posters are concerned about how seriously he takes the game based on the recent incident where he broke his hand the night before the season started punching his beast buddy from high school. Therefore, the timing of this article is kinda irritating. While Baby is thinking about.... whatever he thinks about.... his replacement is playing well and rebounding a lot better than Baby.

On my middle school basketball team, one of the kids I played with didn't think he wanted to play basketball next year in high school, he wanted to focus strictly on football. That kid got benched for the entire season. Shame, he was actually pretty good, too.

The point I'm trying to make is that it's hard to respect someone, no matter how good they are (And Glen's not really what I would call an essential player) wants to do something different, because they're lacking love for the game.

You'd never, ever see Paul Pierce or KG or even Rondo talk about wanting to play in the NFL or MLB now. Because they dedicated their lives and careers to basketball. They want to win and be the best to ever play on the hardwood. Glen's obviously lacking this passion.

I honestly hate Davis' attitude and mindset. People complain about Rondo being bigheaded, but at least he takes basketball seriously, Glen Davis is nothing more than a walking joke.

I miss Leon... Sorry, had to add it.

Well, Michael Jordan wanted to play baseball, so clearly he was lacking love for the game as well...

Jordan left the NBA after his father was killed, he has always promised his dad he would be play baseball. When his dad was murdered, he played in his honor. Completely different circumstances. Davis wants to play in the NFL to feed his own ego, while Jordan left to make good on a promise.

Either way, Glen Davis is NOT Michael Jordan. It's nearly impossible to question MJ's heart, he lived and breathed basketball. He was all business 24/7. Glen Davis isn't that type of person. Like I said, he's a walking joke, and he seems to take pride in being the class clown.

I agree. Also remember that Michael burned out from achieving EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. A three peat. MVP's. DPoY's. He wanted to do everything until he achieved the greatest player ever status. Realize that if someone was better than Jordan at the time, or they lost in the finals to a team, he never would have retired.

Big Baby's settling for an all-star team? He's basically happy with having Jamaal Magloire's career + a ring.

you're right, they're not a big deal. but how were they weren't taken out of context? the whole article is about it.

They have been taken out of context in this thread, as in those posters who called Baby delusional, or questioned his commitment to the game, or expect him to re-direct every question into some team-centered answer like he's a politically correct robot or something.

Celtic fans know the proper context of those comments--Baby's got a larger-than-life personality (KG once called it "the personality of the Celtics") and he's going to goof around in interviews and wax poetic about his hopes and dreams, refer to himself as the "ticket stub," and be an all-around goof ball from time to time.  Knowing who he is, it's ridiculous to hold him to some super politically correct standard of how some ideal athlete would conduct himself in the media and then use that standard to crucify the guy.  THAT'S the context and everybody in this thread knows it.  It's like somebody else pointed out--we haven't lost a game so some people are looking for something, anything, to nitpick.
Folly. Persist.

Sorry dude but your buggin.

Big Baby could have easily had a career in the NFL.  He probably would have been a 1st round pick (I don't actually know what I'm talking about I just heard this somewhere).  But when he went to LSU he chose basketball over football because he had much more of a passion for it.

Think about it.  He's 6'7 290 and hes real quick.  He could be a lineman easily.

BBD wants to play in the NFL someday to feed his own ego? He said it was a dream of his; this is exactly what I'm talking about with people like you. Even if you just want him to think about now, fine, but putting words in his mouth like that is exactly what I mean by overreacting. I feel like you're one of those people who was always down on BBD so you see this article as an excuse to rant about him.

If he did leave, it WOULD be to feed his ego, and just don't understand why he needs to talk about this now. He's too worried about making all-star teams and cashing in to think about the team and what he has in front of him right now. If he truely loved this team, or was maybe even a bit mature he would have diverted attention to the team.

Despite his stupid moniker, he's a grown adult. He should have learned a few lessons in sportsman ship and life at this point, and yet he's flapping his gums about what he wants to do once he achieves all these ridiculous goals in the NBA. News flash, HE ISN'T THAT GOOD. Maybe he would be better off in the NFL, I don't know, I don't care. I'd like to see him smarten up, but it just doesn't seem to be his personality.

In a nutshell, Glen needs to open his eyes, he's blessed to be in the NBA and asking for anything more is just him being drunk off his own ego's and the coulda been, shoulda beens of yesterday.

Look, even if it is his dream, good for him. And I'm glad he'll follow it if or when he does.

BUT that doesn't absolve the fact that fans wouldn't like this and neither would ownership.

What BBD did was mild compared to some shenanigans of NBA players.  It's not like Shawn Kemp's 50+ illegitimate children, or multiple busts for cocaine use (the list of names is too long to post here), or Zach Randolph's felonies, or Jason Kidd's alleged wife beating, or Delonte West's concealed weapons, or Bird breaking his fingers in a bar fight in the middle of the playoffs.  It was unfortunate and stupid, but it's no big deal, and people ought to get off Davis' case.

Look at the bright side: Davis' injury has given Sheldon Williams an opportunity to show what he can do, so that Rivers now has another big man that he can put on the floor with confidence.

TP. Completely 100% agree.  Obviously he would need to take the time to relearn the game and refresh himself and all that jazz but he's more than capable of being an NFL player.  If my word and this man that I quoted above's word doesnt satisfy you, then watch this video and see what the offensive coordinator at Florida State had to say about BBD playing in the NFL.

Sportsmanship? What the heck did you see in his quotes that said he's not a true sportsman? Or are you trying to use the quotes to add onto what you already believed about BBD in the first place?

And what do you mean "ridiculous goals in the NBA"? Becoming an all-star? I don't know if I'd bet money on it, but to call it a ridiculous is way too much. He definitely has a chance if he improves his game, or really does have a 3-point shot, for example. Oh yeah, not to mention lose a bit more weight, that same weight that he could use for the NFL if he really wants to play in that someday...but that doesn't matter right?

And don't try to twist that into wanting to be an all-star as opposed to thinking about "Ubuntu" when he talked about KG and Rasheed being ahead of him. He was being honest, and besides, he said that before. Remember?

I'm no apologist for BBD, especially when he benched himself by breaking his own thumb on his friend's face. But please, the way you've taken BBD's quotes out of context is astounding.
