It has been only a week or two removed from the Antoine Walker reality show.  How close the top is to the bottom! Then along comes Rondo.

(I love Rajon Rondo. Recently I posted that I wish the Celts would get it on already and pay the guy. Unbelievable, I am thinking. He is getting his money. I am so happy about it.)

Now it is Wednesday and I am thinking Rondo, Rondo... shut your mouth. Rajon, don't you realize how much money you have just agreed to be paid? 55 million dollars. Many people are out of work. Companies are going out of business. And where Antoine came from, and where so many other NBA players came from in their childhood, blocks of people are living a life of substandard foods, clothing, shelter, learning, etc... There are kids in Detroit who never tasted fruit in their lives. Their neighborhood has no fruit for sale. Friends and relatives of NBA players have no employment. know what jail is, live a life of no hope. Raajo, when the game ended against the Hornets you coudn't have just patted Paul on the rear and said, " No hard feelings. Nice game Chris." I just hope that now you realize how wrong your reaction was and how negatively people look upon that sort of thing. You are going to get 55 million dollars, Rondo. Think about that. Think about the old neighborhood, think about Antoine. Think before you open your mouth the next time.

Once upon a time there was a great basketball player out of Roxbury, Massachusetts. His name was Jimmy Walker........... You see, y'all,I am still thinking about this whole business. It really bugs me.

Huh?

Rondo handled himself just fine.

Paul was the one who had to be "restrained" after the game, not RR.

So trash talking is now a slap in the face to the working man...? what?

I understand the feeling that rondo should have just walked off and been the bigger man, but honestly, how far are we going to stretch this?

Because he got a big contract, trash talking on a basketball court is an affront to god, America, antoine and apple pie?

Come on now. Even if this ridiculous hand wringing is accurate, how do you justify it against our other players?

Why does paul pierce not insult america and antoine with his behavior? He's similarly well payed, and has gotten into problems talking trash from time to time, including an ejection and multiple fines from the league office for "menacing gestures" and technical fouls.

How about KG? Sheed? bird, who was a master of trash talk?

Making alot of money is not = to a responsibility to be an angel on the court.

I don't think Rondo and CP3 were professional about this, but I don't think money has anything to do with it either.  Just because they make millions doesn't mean they can't be competitive, and it doesn't mean they have to like each other either.

During the game, I actually liked it.  I like seeing the fire from my point guard, especially against the reputed best PG in the league.  That was awesome.  The crap after the game was poorly-handled on many fronts - Rondo and CP3 as participants, Byron Scott for keeping it alive - but on the whole I approve of the attitude.  I want competitiveness (is that a word?  it is now), I want the attitude, the passion.  I can just do without the unsportsmanlike behavior after the final buzzer.

From the sound of things, Rondo's already thinking of how not to be like Antoine...

"Taking care of my family, that's very exciting," Rondo said. "If my daughter doesn't want to work, she doesn't have to work at all. I've got the right people around me. I don't plan on losing [the money]. It's a very blessed situation."

Well, keep in mind that some of Toine's problem was over-generosity to his friends and family.  I'm not saying Rondo will have the same problem, but it's not like Antoine was completely without good intentions, either.

I interpreted "I've got the right people around me" as in Rondo doesn't have gazillions of people he needs to support. But you're right.

Antoine's problem was also this:

Some of his problems do seem to be being over generous, but from the reports it was also to blackjack and craps dealers, as well as his family.

You know Rondo would have done the same regardless of the contract right?

In fact, I'm sure that fire in him had some effect on him GETTING that contract.

Saw the title on the thread and wondered if it was Chris Paul posting.  Rondo was just fine.

Rondo said his daughter wouldn't have to work, Antoine said his whole neighborhood didn't have to work... big diference.

The fact that he does everything else at the All-Star level doesn't count for you?
