Good to see this done. Now, no more distractions. Let's get this Title 18 done.

The best thing about this deal?  It should finally put to rest all of the "maybe we'll sign Lebron / Wade this summer" threads.

In all seriousness, I'm not in love with the fact that the Celtics met Rondo's agent's asking price, but in the end slightly overpaying to keep the core together makes sense.  The extra $1 - $2 million per season is the premium you pay to have stability going forward.

I'd agree that its worth it. Especially if he'd be making a similar demand next year anyways in RFA...

Excellent contract. Rondo is already worth more than that amount without even considering his potential. Great work Danny!

Well, I was certainly wrong about this.  But I am happy the C's did it.  Even if they change their mind on Rondo, it is a reasonable enough contract that they should be able to move him if they decide he is not for them.

More importantly though, this will make next summer much more bearable.  It would have been painful to go through a summer of rumors of possibly losing Rondo for nothing...especially if its coming off a championship.

I'm not excited.
The cap's going down next year and the Roy's/LaMarcus Aldrige extensions showed the WRONG path to follow in these days.

I think we overpaid.

I don't think the Celtics could have gotten him any cheaper, especially if they waited until the was a RFA.  Besides, I don't think we overpaid, and if we did, it's only by $1-$2M, not an amount to complain about.

Excellent news as far as I'm concerned.

I'm happy the deal got done, but I think the Celtics got their bluff called.  Not only is the cap going down a good amount this year, and will likely go down the year after that too, but Rondo is still missing some glaring parts to his game.

Think of it this way:  Rondo has not made much money so far and is one injury away from not getting that type of contract that will make him "set".  He should have felt the pressure more than Celtics.

I love Rondo's game, but just wait until the Celtics play a real playoff series (i.e. Orlando, Lakers, Spurs, etc).  Rondo dominated the last two regular seasons but was often times mitigated in the playoffs due to his lack of a shot.  It WILL happen again.

Again, I'm happy about the signing so that everyone can entirely focus on banner 18.

The cap's going down but it's not like it's a free fall. It will probably go back up before the contract kicks in.

Rondo didn't dominate very much at all in 2007-2008. He was a much much better player last year. With his age I don't think its unreasonable to expect him to keep improving. If he does the he'll be well worth the contract.

If not, if he just maintains he'll be overpaid.
