Why the heck did he do this?

Am I missing something?  Why is this funny?  He should be fined or something.  What good reason did he possibly have for swatting at it?

Yer pretty awful thing to do, I doubt the bat was killed though, probably just stunned.

Our fruit bats in Australia have this disease that one in ten carry and if you are bitten by a diseased bat, there is no cure and you most likely die.  :o

huh? really? from an infection control viewpoint he should be commended... probably stopped thousands of people being exposed further to whatever that bat was carrying

on top of that he stopped any interruption in the game.

it's not like he was merciless - he just stopped it flying around. i really dont see how this could be construed as cruel.

The chance that this bat was "infected" with something, let alone something that anyone would die from, is extremely remote. I wish they had let the guy with the net catch it, but it flew by Manu and he just reacted, as anyone would ... like with a fly or mosquito. I don't think he should be chastised for it ... much ado about nothing.
