Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics have a little bit more time to work toward a contract extension.

The league has pushed the deadline for contract extensions for all players from the 2006 draft class from Saturday to Monday, league spokesman Tim Frank confirmed Thursday night.

Basically because of:

Quote
Only four first-round picks from 2006 have received extensions so far: No. 1 overall pick Andrea Bargnani (Toronto), No. 2 LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland), No. 6 Brandon Roy (Portland) and No. 13 Thabo Sefolosha (Oklahoma City).

While I suppose that this deadline extension is relevant, I still hold onto the opinion, which is basically that Rondo should play for his new contract this year and he'll get paid handsomely by the Celtics next off-season.

Ugh, I feel like this should've been posted on "Around the NBA" instead of here...even it does concern Rondo.

Welp, whatever the mods feel.

I'm not sure 2 more days is gonna see many signings.

I'd rather sign Rondo for 55mil this year than 65 next year.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

They can extend the deadline back as long as they want, it still isn't going to make many teams want to extend their draftees. That was one dreadful draft.

3    Charlotte Bobcats   Adam Morrison

it's an nba conspiracy to keep rondo on the celtics - good business to have a good team in boston.   tim donaghy said so.

I understand that a lot of guys on this list aren't worth the size 10 typeface they appear on, but noteable guys who are gonna be presumed FA's:

Ronnie Brewer
Rudy Gay
Rajon Rondo
Tyrus Thomas

Leads me to wonder why this was extended. Those three guys are in my mind the only ones who are really gonna get a good look for a lucrative extension.

So why the push?

I wish Roy ended up in green, too IP. Could of easily happened, I've heard McHale was taking Foye if we kept that pick.

Then if we still trade for Rondo? jeez. But what are the chances we got KG, still? Maybe my memory is a little hazy, but didn't Wally and Raef both have three years left in 2006? So, I'm not sure if Minny woulda taken that extra year of Wally/Raef over Theo's deal.

Maybe David Stern's secretary wants to bring her kid out trick-or-treating so she asked for Dave to extend the deadline in case some paperwork came in late?

It's possible!!

Because the deadline is a saturday, so they're pushing it to a business day.

Is that a real reason?

EDIT: I mean it's not like someone could sign an extension on a saturday, right?

Can't believe Phoenix, desperately seeking a decent, young backup PG in 2006 to replace nash so they wouldn't have to extend an old guy(like they did) drafted and sold away both Rondo and Rodriguez. What idiots.

Who knows; keeping the office closed on Saturday saves the NBA some minor amount of money, I'm sure.  That could be all the rationale they need.

Otherwise, I don't see any real reason to move the deadline.  How many of the guys in that draft are even negotiating extensions?
